CAS Seniors x 2 and NEW CPC Project

This month in the Senior Stamping session, we make two Clean and Simple (CAS) Cards!  With the holiday approaching quickly, I thought it would be fun to do Thanksgiving and Christmas themed cards.

Don’t forget to look at the last photo too… it’s a BRAND NEW project from the designers at Craft Project Central tutorial photo too!

Here’s the first CAS card…1.senior_thanksgiving_card_103111

Make ‘n take card kits included pre-embossed and pre-punched leaves.  The leaves were cut from retired card stock and designer series papers (DSP) using retired punches, and then stamped with Old Olive Classic Ink using a small tri-leaf image from the Day of Gratitude stamp set.2.Senior_Christmas_Card

Holly leaf die cuts from the Stocking Accents Originals Die were added to pretty petal embossed Very Vanilla card stock.  Red Glimmer Paper “berries” are also part of the Stocking Accents die… but since I only had tiny little scraps of red glimmer paper in my stash, the berries were punched with a 1/2” circle punch.

Stamped sentiments used on both cards were from separate stamp sets, “Teeny Tiny Wishes” and “Christmas Greetings” stamp sets.3.Christmas Lodge Folder & Card by anne marie hill

Isn’t this a lovely collection?  It’s just one of several new projects available at Craft Projects Central for October!  The Christmas Lodge Folder and Card Set was designed by team member Anne Marie Hill.  Love the colors, and texture… don’t you?

Gosh this weekend, and month have gone by so quickly… before you know it, Christmas will be upon us!  Doesn’t that make you shiver in your boots?

See you tomorrow…

Hugs,

Sharon

Wood Sheet Faux Sure and Always Thankful

Today’s card is NOT a faux technique, faux sure… I promise!  But it does feature Faux Wood Sheets and TWO technique applications and the  Always Thankful stamp set from the current Holiday Mini Catalog!Main.wood.sheet.masculine.card.by.sharon.field

That’s NOT faux wood in the focal image, it’s not designer series paper either!  It’s actually wood sheet found on the base materials page 216 of the Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog 2011-12!2.wood.sheet.masculine.card.by.sharon.field

I love the way this card turned out so much that we’ll be creating it at my November Club Meeting!  Club members are always looking for a great Masculine Card… and this one surely fits the bill!

Today’s card also features the Always Thankful Holiday Mini Catalog stamp set, which club members and guests will be able to purchase on Wednesday November 2nd at a 20% discount!  If you’d like to attend the club meeting, please RSVP and contact me to ensure that adequate kits are prepared!

During our club meetings, we lunch and learn… LOL, stampers love to eat, and we generally feast on a delectable meal and dessert too!  The club is currently filled to capacity, with hostesses receiving monthly benefits and free stuff… but if you’d like to join a future club, attend as a guest, or start a new club with friends, feel free to contact me.

3.wood.sheet.masculine.card.by.sharon.field

Isn’t this fun?  I’ll post the supply list towards the end of today’s post… you may already have many of the supplies on hand!4.wood.sheet.masculine.card.by.sharon.fieldDid you know that you can also emboss the wood sheets?  This one was embossed using the Big Shot Machine and Houndstooth Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, and sponged with Soft Suede Classic Ink… Isn’t it cool?

5.wood.sheet.masculine.card.by.sharon.field

I didn’t want to “muddy-up” the overall façade of the card, so the hand stamped sentiments from the “Always Grateful” stamp set were stamped only on the interior of today’s card. Edges of Very Vanilla card stock were sponged with Soft Suede Classic ink to blend and maintain the masculine impact of the card.6.wood.sheet.masculine.card.by.sharon.field

Overall, the card has a relatively flat profile, and weighs well under one ounce too!  Dimensionality is achieved with the Houndstooth embossed wood sheet and popped up focal image!

Tutorial–Silver Glimmer Ornament Box

A couple weeks ago, during the Stampin’ Addicts Big Shot Tour, I featured three projects using the Sizzix Big Shot Machine with the Bitty Box and Envelope Die.

You’ve asked for tutorials on the projects, so this weekend’s project will begin a kick-off series on the projects.  Each Saturday, for three consecutive weeks I will feature a tutorial on one of the projects featured during the tour.

This weekend is the HUGE Florida-Georgia Football Game here in Jacksonville, Florida… and I’m “kicking-off” the tutorial series with the Silver Glimmer Ornament Box!  (LOL… don’t try to go out to dinner here in Jacksonville this weekend without reservations, you’ll be waiting for a very long time!)Main_Silver_Glimmer_Ornament_By_SharonField

IMPORTANT NOTE…

Be sure to read all the way through today’s post… there’s a LIMITED TIME SPECIAL OFFER at the end of today’s tutorial which you may need to act on right away!

Supplies for the Silver Glimmer Ornament Box:2.supplies_Silver_Glimmer_Ornament_102911

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

Silver Glimmer Paper Brushed Gold Card Stock
Stampin’ Dimensionals (7) Basic Jewel Rhinestones (2)
Doily Triple Punch 2-3/8” Scallop Circle Punch
Antique Brads (1) Vanilla Pearl 1/2” Bauble
Mat Pack Big Shot Die Cutting Machine
Paper Piercing Tool Bitty Box & Envelope Die
Champagne Shimmer Paint Extended Premium Crease Pad
Bone Folder

Non- Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

  • 10mm Jump Ring*
  • Jewelry Pliers – 2 pair**
  • 90% Rubbing Alcohol (not shown)
  • Mini Mister or Fine Art Mist Spritzer Bottle (not shown)
  • Fancy Ornament Hanger with Crystal

* A 10mm jump ring is much larger than the one included with the pearl bauble (The supply photo shows the jump ring included with the bauble with a red X through it.)  The 10mm jump ring is large enough to go inside and outside the box.  Alternatively, you could use wire or tinsel wire, but I preferred the unencumbered, clean look which the jump ring gave to the inside of the box.

**Although Jewelry Pliers are suggested, you could also use needle-nosed or split ring pliers.

Step by Step Instructions for today’s tutorial…

Silver Glimmer Ornament Box

  1. Mix up a batch of Shimmer Mist, spray the paper daisy with the Champagne Shimmer Mist then set aside and allow to dry.
  2. Die cut 7-1/2” x 5-1/4” piece of silver glimmer paper using the Sizzix Big Shot Machine, Bitty Box and Envelope Die and Silicone Crease Pad.
  3. Use Bone Folder to crease along all scored lines.
  4. Fold one (lid) flap on the bitty box die cut inwards.  Place on foam mat from Mat Pack, and pierce through two layers of Silver Glimmer Paper using the Paper Piercing Tool.3_Silver_Glimmer_Ornament_Box_By_SharonField
  5. Remove Paper Piercing Tool, open flap up and align with the adjacent box side.  Using the previous pierced flap as a guide, pierce through both layers of Silver Glimmer Paper.4_Silver_Glimmer_Ornament_Box_By_SharonField
  6. Identify corner and flaps directly opposite to the one you just pierced and repeat steps (3) and (4).5._Silver_Glimmer_Ornament_Box_By_SharonField
  7. Fold flap toward lid of box, working from the outside of the box, insert paper trimmer through all three holes in the box corner.  Repeat for opposite corner pierced pieces.6_Silver_Glimmer_Ornament_Box_By_SharonField
  8. Use 2 pairs of jewelry pliers to “rock” open the 6mm Jewelry Ring.7._Silver_Glimmer_Ornament_Box_By_SharonField
  9. Fold lid flap inward towards box and working from the outside of the box, insert jewelry ring through all three holes in box corner.8._Silver_Glimmer_Ornament_Box_By_SharonField
  10. Use jewelry pliers and back/forth motion to rock the ring back to closed status.9._Silver_Glimmer_Ornament_Box_By_SharonField
  11. Attach a bobble to the 6mm ring, add a small basic jewel rhinestone to the center of the vanilla pearl bauble.
  12. Fold in flap on opposite (pierced) corner, and insert the ornament hanger through all three holes.
  13. Cut Brushed Gold card stock with the 2-3/8” scalloped circle punch, and one silver glimmer Doily Triple Punch on first punch setting.
  14. Insert an Antique Brad through center of the Doily Triple Punched Glimmer Paper, and flatten prongs on back of the Paper Daisy.
  15. Attach one Stampin’ Dimensional to the flattened prongs, and attach to the shimmer misted Paper Daisy from step 1.10._Silver_Glimmer_Ornament_Box_By_SharonField
  16. Attach three Stampin’ Dimensionals to the center and both sides of the 2-3/8” Brushed Gold card stock scallop circle punch.
  17. Remove the protective paper covering from one set of Stampin’ Dimensionals, center paper daisy and attach.  TIP:  Inserting your fingernail firmly into the protective paper covering of Stampin’ Dimensionals will make them curl and lift slightly along the edges… which also makes them much easier to peel.
  18. Remove protective paper covering from remaining three Stampin’ Dimensionals, and attach to the center of the Silver Glimmer Ornament Box!11._Silver_Glimmer_Ornament_Box_By_SharonField

It’s a Zoo Challenge, Kindness Matters!

Bet you’re wondering what that’s all about!  I wasn’t sure what I would do with today’s post… so I turned to some challenge sites for inspiration!

This first card is for the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge SSSC140, and features all five images from the Zoo Review stamp set!SSSC140_ZooReview_By_SharonField_102811MainDo you recognize the designer series paper (DSP) on the upper half of the card?  Look just a little bit familiar maybe?  LOL… it’s from the Beau Chateau DSP pack!

Originally the paper was a pink background with gold chicken wire.  Wanting something more reminiscent of a zoo-like background, I sponged the paper with wisteria wonder, lucky limeade and not quite navy classic ink! Zoo Review Close up #1 Now it blends much better with the zoo theme, and stripe embossed brushed silver card stock too!Zoo Review Challenge Lion and bearHere’s a challenge within the challenge… don’t these guys look like they’re about to rumble?SSSC140_on_Createdbyu_Blogspot_By_Sharon_FieldHere’s the Sweet Sunday Sketch, SSSC140 <—Click if You’d like to see what everyone else did or play along!

I’ve got a second card for you today too!  This one is based on  Nance Leedy’s sketch for The Paper Players, PPA68!PPA68_Challenge_KindnessMattersBySharonField1028_MainStamps and images are from the Kindness Matters stamp set.  I chose that particular set because there was already a big “K” on the background First Edition DSP.friday_closeup_sparkle_layeredflower_1028_PPA68-2This flower is a combination of the Daisy Triple Layer punch, Itty Bitty Punch Pack, a medium Paper Daisy sprayed with Champagne Shimmer Mist, and a basic black brad.friday_ppa68-3_rolledflowerpetalsA solid Daisy Triple Layer punch was snipped towards the center, and each formed petal curled with my round nosed jewelry pliers before attaching with a stampin’ dimensional to the wide striped grosgrain ribbon.friday_ppa68-4_butterflyandsentimentAfter cutting out the butterfly from Kindness Matters, I also curled the wings with my round nosed jewelry pliers.PP69_on_Createdbyu_BlogspotHere’s the sketch from The Paper Players <—Click to play along or view all the other challenge cards submitted this week!

See you tomorrow with a new Super Saturday Tutorial!  I heard there’s Glimmer Paper involved!

CS54

Today’s Creative Sketches Design Team Challenge inspired me to try something a bit different.  I really need to experiment with fancy folds using retired card stock or printer paper instead, as it took me about four tries to get this one right!CS45H_SharonField_Main_Createdbyu_Blogspot_Oct11So… I created a different kind of fancy fold card.  Wanting the card to open with a flap at the end, very vanilla card stock was initially cut at 4-1/4” x 12” and scored it at 5-1/2” and 11”.  But, I quickly found out that a 1” flap wouldn’t create the swooping curved closure I had envisioned!Fancy fold flap photo 2 Sharon Field 102611After running around the house measuring everything round… in the pantry, the kitchen, etc.… I couldn’t find ANYTHING in my home with a 4-1/4” diameter which I had hoped to trace and create the curve with.

So.. I just grabbed something larger than 4-1/4” and lined it up with the scored line, and the midway point at the bottom edge of the 1” card stock lip.  After tracing onto the card stock, I repeated the process for the other side.

The hand penned dots and dashes closest to the scored line are where the  1” curve ended.. definitely not enough flap to flip!photo3 102711 Sharon Field Fancy Fold flap OpeningSo, a 2” x 4-1/4” ‘extension’ was added… but this time the curve was created 1/2” from the top edge and then glued to the first flap… notice the straight edges on the flap?  This gave the flap a little more depth.1/2 inch drop, ribbon wrapped flap photo4 on createdbyuAnd it was a good place for the ribbon to rest too!photo5_reversible_tag_With_safetypin_SharonFieldThe flower tag is reversible… (this is the back of it) and attached to the ribbon knot with a mini safety pin.Inside of_FancyFoldCard102711_sharonfieldThe stamp sets used in today’s Creative-Sketches challenge are Fruit and Flowers, Bring on the Cake, and Short and Sweet.CS45H_createdbyu_blogspotHere’s today’s sketch… I could have made it easier on myself by just cutting out a scallop circle die cut with my big shot machine, right?

Hope you will play along with the Creative Sketches Design Team this week!  Use the sketch and a “special event” theme, upload to an online blog, forum, or gallery.. and then visit the team blog to copy/paste the URL of your creation… it’s that simple!

See you tomorrow with some new/different cards!

Sharon

Who made that mess, and SQSC10 Challenge

“Who made that mess, Sharon… did you dump out the cat toy basket?”  That’s what I heard this morning when my DH got up!   It wasn’t in my field of vision as I worked on my post early this morning from the kitchen… but the cat toy basket (24”L x 18”w s 9” deep) had been dumped out on the great room floor, it’s contents strewn from one end of the room to the other.  LOL… “Not Me!! But I’m pretty certain it was one of two cats in the room!”   Guess it was a slow night for the nocturnal members of our family!

Got to wonder though, why he’d even ask me if I dumped the cat toy basket, oh well!

Today’s card for the Stampin’ Queens Sketch Challenge is a bit of a departure from my ‘usual’ style, if you think I have one!  It’s also kind of a ‘mess’ of another sort… SQSC10_SharonField_createdbyu_Blogspot_main

A little bit of a cross between distressing and grunge!  Probably shocked my design team partners a bit, LOL.. hope not too badly!

I’m going to change things up a bit today too, and show you the sketch first so that you can compare the sketch directly with my card.SQSC-11-1-26_on_Createdbyu_blogspot

LOL… I guess I changed it up a bit more than I originally thought! Wait until you see some of the design team creations… they stuck to the model much better than I, and you’ll love them!photo3_grunge_daring_adventure_profile_sharon_Field

So… it’s not really a very flat card.  photo 4 rolled corners and tip

I usually curl distressed corners with my paper piercing tool or stylus, but I found a new and better way!

TIP:  Use round nose jewelry making pliers to roll card stock and designer series paper corners!  Just grab a little of the paper and start rolling!Photo 5 hemp twine at top of card

The backs of the rolled corners were distressed and sponged too… didn’t want some very vanilla card stock or brightly striped paper showing up in the middle of the card!

When I first knotted the hemp twine to add to the card, it looked a little too much like a hangman’s noose and didn’t really want to send that sort of ‘daring adventure’ message… so I snipped one of the three twine pieces, and wrapped it back around the knot.Photo6 HempTwineAt BottomOF Card

Holding on to that “no noose knot” thought (say that fast three times, lol)… the bottom three hemp twine ends were spread out, and glued to the back of herringbone embossed Not Quite Navy card stock.photo 6 adding brads with a mat pack and piercin toolWhat is rustic without a few brads?  These were chosen for their color from the Metallic Brad package… After distressing all the card stock and designer series papers with the cutter kit, the edges were sponged again to make them blend a bit more with the theme of the card.  Plus they matched the mini library clip in the next photo!photo7_trinket_key_Tag_Sharon_Field_Createdbyu_Blogspot

I think this is my favorite part of today’s card share… the layered tag with a trinket key and hand written jewelry tag message.  Get it?

“Life is either a Daring Adventure or Nothing”

AND

“You are the key, and Important”

The First Edition Designer Series Paper actually says “Importance”… but I thought it was a pretty funny coincidence to find it at the bottom of my tag when I looked at it after putting the layers together!

So… hope you enjoyed today’s style departure Smile

Want to see a more traditional card using the Trinket Keys?  Check out this pretty Fall Card and tutorial.  It will be the third photo in that post.

And hope you’ll play along with the Stampin’ Queens Sketch Challenge Design Team this week too!  Simply make a card, scrapbook page or project using today’s SQSC 010 sketch, upload and copy the URL of your creation, and …. well, you know the drill!

See you tomorrow with a fun and a bit more traditional style card for the Creative-Sketches Design Team Challenge!

Sharon

UDI#59 Summer Solstice and Fall Colors

When I first viewed today’s Utah Divas International Color Challenge, my thought immediately went to fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving themed cards.

But as I sat down in my studio and ventured down the creative path towards my ultimate card creation, I had glimpses of a fall colored version of THIS card from last spring… and/or a majestic monarch butterfly!

But my design took a turn of it’s own, and today’s UDI Challenge #59 is something altogether different than anything I had originally envisioned!UDI58_sharon_Field_on_Createdbyu_BlogspotLOL… one never knows what will happen when you sit down to stamp!!  Today’s challenge colors:  Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black, and Whisper White.   summer solstice short and sweet thank you tabBoth background “First Edition” Designer Series Paper (DSP) and Whisper White card stock were sponged with daffodil delight and Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink.

A sentiment was stamped with basic black ink, punched with the modern label punch, and then sponged with pumpkin pie and basic black ink.  “Thank You” is one of several sentiments in the tiny and classic “Short and Sweet” Stamp Set.sponging and three more brads pic3 on createdbyu.blogspotLots of Basic Black brads were added to the card for interest… five along the right side of the focal image, and three in the lower left corner of the card.photo 4 triple loop brad bow from tutorial on createdbyuBasic Black Scalloped Polka Dot Ribbon was tied in a triple loop brad bow and securely attached to the focal image using four mini glue dots.  There’s a full (free) tutorial HERE on making a brad bow if you’ve never made one and want some help.photo5_would look great with brown layers tooThe other stamp set used on today’s card was from the 2011-12 Idea Book and Catalog, page 114 called “Summer Solstice”.  Looking at the final card now, I think it would have been even prettier with Early Espresso vs. Basic Black Card Stock… what do you think?udi_059_Oct25_on_Createdbyu_Blogspot

Cute inspiration photo… remember when ALL the kids trick or treating wore cute costumes?  LOL, dating myself a little, huh?

Join us for the UDI#59 Color Challenge this week… make your color challenge inspired item and then upload the URL of your specific creation to the Utah Divas International Design Team Site… you know the drill!

Off to my stamping studio to work on Christmas Cards for this weekend’s class…. LOL, I woke up this morning with a lagging dream that I was one of many allergic to corduroy… the fabric, not the bear!  Wonder where that came from and how it will manifest itself in this weekend’s card class!

See you tomorrow with a new challenge from the Creative-Sketches Design Team!

Hugs,

Sharon
