UDI 38 Fabulous Florets Garden Collage

When I saw this week’s UDI 38 Challenge, the only thing that popped into my mind was the new Fabulous Florets Stamp Set from Stampin’ Up’s Summer Mini Catalog!  I guess you could say I’m a bit hung up on this fabulous mini and floral stamp set!

Today’s Utah Divas International Color Challenge included the colors Certainly Celery, Peach Parfait, Pretty In Pink, and Soft Suede in our card.  I added one neutral too:  Very Vanilla.

The floral images were mostly inked with the brush end of Stampin’ Write Markers, which allowed me to achieve two colors per stamped image.  The largest bloom was then inked in a Peach Parfait Classic Ink Pad using the Rock ‘N Roll technique made popular many years ago by Splitcoaststampers.

UDI38, color challenge, Sharon Field, Created by You, Fabulous Florets, Summer Mini Catalog, Blog Candy

This card reminded me of a flower garden… and although I immediately thought of doing the faux rattan technique featured in one of my Super Saturday Tutorials, I decided to simplify.  Instead, I used the big shot machine to emboss Soft Suede card stock with the Square Lattice Textured Embossing Folder, and then applied a light coat of Gold Shimmer Paint with a sponge dauber.

Using a ticket corner punch, I created layers of Very Vanilla, Soft Suede and Pear Pizzazz to create a layered tag for the greeting.  A mat pack and paper piecing tool (my very favorite tool in the whole wide world, LOL) and pierced holes to perfectly place the gold brads.

One Gold Eyelet was added to the narrow end of the stamped tag using a Crop-a-Dile tool… yet another indispensible “must have” in my Stamping Room!  Pretty in Pink Taffeta Ribbon was threaded through the eyelet and then tied in an over hand knot to secure.

Here’s today’s color inspiration for the Utah Divas International Color Challenge… a lovely baby quilt featuring the same colors.  I guess this week I didn’t stray too far from the inspiration piece for a change LOL!

Hope you’ll play along with the Utah Divas International Design Team this week!  Surely the bright colors will inspire you to stamp and create something wonderful!  Simply upload your card to a blog, forum, or online gallery and then visit the UDI team blog to upload your art.. the link is in the first line of this paragraph!

If you happen to visit often, you are probably already aware that I am hosting a fun blog candy give away this week… You can read all about this weeks’ blog candy and enter here.

Hope to see you tomorrow with another fabulous challenge… in the mean time, take care and stay safe!

Love and Care, Blog Candy Announcement

Today is the day you have all been waiting for… it’s a very special day when I say thank you to my friends, fans, and customers… and that’s YOU!  Thank you for your kind comments, your orders, support, and friendship!

Today’s post features another card using the Love & Care Hostess Level II stamp set from the Summer Mini Catalog.  Yesterday I shared a CAS (Clean and Simple) card featuring the Love & Care Stamp Set.  AND.. a new BLOG CANDY Announcement too!

Love and Care, CAS, Elegant Soiree, Summer Mini, Hostess, Level II, Created By You, Sharon Field, 5 minute card, Blog Candy

I love the stark white background on this card, and the details as well.  Although I considered embossing the background to give it some detail, opted instead to leave it clean and crisp.  Don’t you just love the Love & Care Stamp Set?

Guess what?  I’m giving away a clear mount Love & Care Hostess Level II Stamp Set to one lucky blog candy winner!  The winner will be chosen through a random drawing, and all you have to do to be entered is to leave a comment on this post telling which of my Super Saturday Tutorials is your very favorite, and why!

Next weekend, during my regular Super Saturday Tutorial feature, I will submit the number of comments to Random.org and announce the winner of the Love & Care Hostess Level II Stamp Set… and that could be you!

But wait… there’s more!  Three more numbers will be drawn for consolation prizes… that’s right, there will be FOUR lucky winners announced next Saturday!

Stamps and Supplies used in Today’s Love & Care Card:

Stamps:  Love & Care

Paper:  Whisper White, Baja Breeze, and Early Espresso Card Stock, Elegant Soiree Designer Series Paper

Classic Ink and Markers:  Marina Mist, Pear Pizzazz, Early Espresso

Accessories:  2-way glue pen, Basic Jewel Rhinestones, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Early Espresso 1/8” Grosgrain Ribbon, Dazzling Diamonds

Thank you again for all your support, hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend.

Clean and Simple Love & Care 5 min. Card

Do you ever need to make really quick, clean and simple (CAS) card?  How about a one layer card?  Something I rarely make (because I really love layers LOL)… but earlier this month I participated in a VC Rocks Simplicity Swap, just so I could challenge myself to make something very CAS, very quick, and in less than 5 minutes!

I chose the Love & Care Stamp Set (Hostess Level II in the Summer Mini Catalog), don’t you just love the bold and artsy floral designs in the stamp set?  I hope those who received my swap liked it!  Here’s my Simplicity Swap Card:

CAS, Clean and Simple, Shop Online, Summer Mini, Swaps, 5 Minute Card, VC Rocks, Love and Care, Sharon Field, Created by You

Talk about a quick card!  This one took less than 5 minutes to make, so it was perfect for the Simplicity Swap!

  • The largest flower image was stamped with Daffodil Delight Classic Ink, and then using the Rock ‘n Roll Technique, Peach Parfait Classic Ink was added around the edges of the bloom.
  • The stemmed blooms were inked using the brush tip of Melon Mambo and Pear Pizzazz Stampin’ Write Markers, and then stamped to overlap the initial blossom and each other.
  • One more image was inked with Peach Parfait Classic Ink, and stamped direct to paper (DTP), and the smallest flowers were random stamped in Marina Mist Classic Ink.
  • After stamping the greeting with Pear Pizzazz Classic Ink, the outside edges of the card were highlighted with a Marina Mist Stampin’ Write Marker and a knot of Marina Mist Taffeta Ribbon added to the front of the card with a Mini Glue Dot.

Hope you’re having a fabulous holiday weekend!  My DH is going to barbeque ribs for us tomorrow… always a treat, yum!

See you tomorrow for a special Blog Candy Announcement… you won’t want to miss this one!

Hugs,

Sharon

Split Level Easel Super Saturday Tutorial

Today’s Super Saturday Tutorial features another Split Level Easel card, similar in design to the one featured HERE.

Readers requested a tutorial on the card, so here it is!  Today’s Split Level Easel Card features images from the Thanks for Caring  stamp set, along with a sponged sky background, embossed images, and basic pearl jewels.

Thanks for Caring, Summer Mini, Catalog, sympathy, tutorial, split easel card, basic pearls, butterfly, super saturday, created by you, Sharon Field

I love creating a sponged sky background!  It’s so simple to do with a scallop punch and stampin’ sponge, applying Bashful Blue Classic Ink over the scallops, and moving the scallop across, up and down to suggest blue skies and bright white and fluffy clouds. Thanks for Caring, Summer Mini, Catalog, sympathy, tutorial, split easel card, basic pearls, butterfly, super saturday, created by you, Sharon Field

The Card Stock Vellum butterfly was embossed, cut out, and popped onto the card using stampin’ dimensionals.  Tiny pearls were added to the center of each flower.

The full flower image was embossed using new Melon Mambo and Wild Wasabi Embossing Powders which are featured in the Summer Mini Catalog. Thanks for Caring, Summer Mini, Catalog, sympathy, tutorial, split easel card, basic pearls, butterfly, super saturday, created by you, Sharon Field

The center of each flower was colored with a Regal Rose Stampin’ Write Marker, and then a tiny pear added to the center of each flower in this panel as well.

I tried to keep this card simple… but couldn’t help adding a punched tiny heart surrounded by pearls, with a rhinestone added to the middle.

Thanks for Caring, Summer Mini, Catalog, sympathy, tutorial, split easel card, basic pearls, butterfly, super saturday, created by you, Sharon Field

I used the tiny pearls which were already in a line and connected, which made it easy to go around and form the tiny heart.

This card is surprisingly easy to make… and I was really surprised when you asked for a tutorial!  But I aim to please… so here we go!

Cutting and Scoring Instructions for Today’s Split Easel Card:

Whisper White Card Stock:

    • ONE 6x6 scored at 3” and 1.5” (Card Base)
    • TWO 1.75” x 2.25”
    • ONE 1.75” x 1.75”

Wild Wasabi Card Stock

    • TWO 2” x 2.5”
    • ONE 2” x 2”

Vellum Card Stock and Melon Mambo Card Stock Scraps

Split Easel Card Assembly Instructions:

  1. Use bone folder to neatly crease scored lines.
  2. Use Stampin’ Sponge, Bashful Blue Classic Ink, and a punched 2-3/8” scallop scrap to sponge clouds between the 1.5” and 3” scored lines on your card base.
  3. Open up card, and sponge the inside and un-scored part of the card as you did in step 2.
  4. Line up three Wild Wasabi Card Stock Pieces so that the 2” edge is along the open edge of the card base(two long ones on the end, shorter one in the middle… or change it up as you see fit!)
  5. Place glue on card base between the 1.5” and open edge of the card.
  6. Attach Wild Wasabi card stock pieces just like you had lined them up in step 3.  Only the lower half of each Wild Wasabi Card Stock piece will be affixed to the card base.
  7. Sponge remaining Whisper White Card Stock pieces, as you did the card base in step 2.
  8. Turn on heat tool to allow it to fully heat.
  9. Dust sponged Whisper White Card Stock pieces with and embossing buddy.
    • TIP:  If you tend to have oily skin, or have recently applied lotion, use the embossing buddy on your fingertips as well to prevent powder from sticking to your finger prints.
  10. Stamp images with Versamark Ink, carefully add Melon Mambo Embossing Powder to the flower portion of the bloom.  Shake off excess, and gently thump the back to remove any extra powder.
  11. Heat to set with the Embossing Gun aka Heat Tool.
  12. Add Wild Wasabi to the lower half (stem/leaf), remove excess, and heat.
  13. Use Embossing buddy on a small scrap of Vellum Card Stock.
  14. Stamp the butterfly image on scrap of Card Stock Vellum with Versamark Ink.
  15. Cover with White Embossing Powder, shake off excess, thump, and heat to set.
  16. Cut around the butterfly image with your paper snips, and mount to card with a tiny piece of stampin’ dimensional.  For my butterfly, I cut one of the side edges of dimensional in half, and then stuck it along the body of the butterfly… which makes it almost invisible as a means of support/suspension.
  17. Stamp With Love and Caring on smallest piece of Whisper White card stock.
  18. Add embellishments… pearls, ribbon, etc..
  19. Attach stamped embellished Whisper White card stock to already mounted Wild Wasabi card stock pieces on front of card.
  20. Stamp greeting on inside, lower right edge of card.
  21. Punch a tiny Melon Mambo Heart and glue to the left of the greeting.
  22. Use Basic Pearl which are in a line, and attach the first one in the ‘V’ of the heart.  Press the pearls into place as you migrate around the heart, and snip when you get back to the “V”.
  23. Add a medium rhinestone jewel to the middle of the heart… and you’re done!  Here is what the front of the card will look like! Thanks for Caring, Summer Mini, Catalog, sympathy, tutorial, split easel card, basic pearls, butterfly, super saturday, created by you, Sharon Field

I hope to see you back here tomorrow when I’ll share some new card design ideas!

SFF0527 Sugar Coated Flower Fest

Not REAL sugar, LOL… but Dazzling Diamonds instead!  But the Blossom Punched leaves and stamped/punched flower image do look like they’ve been coated with sugar!

Today’s Sketch Frenzy Friday sketch focuses on simplicity, and was created by team member Melinda Couden.  Of course, I like to glam it up a bit… so added some dimension and layers!

SFF052711 Flower Fest, Big Shot, Punches, Dazzling Diamonds, Sharon Field, Created by YouThe Blossom punched leaves were run through a big shot machine using the Square Lattice Textured Embossing Folder, and then dazzled to give them a sugar coated appearance.  SFF0527, Big Shot, Textured Embossing Folder, Flower Fest, Sharon Field, Created By You, Online ShoppingThe blossom image was stamped with Not Quite Navy Classic ink, and then using the brush end of a Stampin’ Write Marker, a little Bashful Blue color was added to each petal before it, too was dazzled.SFF0527, Big Shot, Textured Embossing Folder, Flower Fest, Sharon Field, Created By You, Online Shopping

Both leaves and flower were attached to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  After attaching a ribbon around the card front layers, a double loop bow was attached with three Mini Glue Dots.  I like to use three dots to secure the ribbon so that the loops of the ribbon do not move after being attached to the card.

LOVE the Mini Library Clips!  It’s always amazes me how something so small can add so much to a sentiment and/or card!

Having all that bling working on the card, I decided to bling the Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper too… with a two way glue pen and of course, more Dazzling Diamonds!

Here’s Melinda’s sketch for today’s challenge…

CS34H Happy Fourth Of July!

What do you remember about the July Fourth holidays of your childhood?  I grew up near Lake Huron, Michigan… and our fourth of July celebration often included a picnic at the lake, swimming, and fireworks.  The lake was always filled with gracefully gliding Sail Boats, in full regalia.. colorful spinnakers, flags, and sometimes decorations too!

Today’s Creative Sketches Design Team Challenge includes a sketch and the holiday theme of our own choice.  My theme, if you haven’t guessed:  July 4th!  Here’s my card!CS34H, Holiday card, masculine card, design team, sharon field, created by you, challenge, sail away, summer mini catalog, big shot, nautical expedition

The card features the Sail Away stamp set from the Summer Mini Catalog, Lattice Embossed Whisper White Card Stock, and Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper.  The combination results in a very handsome, masculine card suitable for Fathers’ Day, Birthdays, or even July 4th!

Wanting to give the sails extra depth and dimension, I stamped a second image and cut out each sail, popping it up atop the original stamped focal image.

Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper was intentionally cut to reveal a single knotted image below the focal image, and brads were added to the upper left corner.

CS34H_2_SharonField

I love to teach my stampin’ friends and students that there are no mistakes, only creative opportunities.  LOL… a smudge in the sky could become another gull, a smudge in the water – another wave.  On this card, I didn’t quite ink the boat well enough to encompass the sketchy stamped hull… so used a riding hood red stampin’ write marker to fill the void by scribbling lightly.

Here’s the sketch for this week’s Creative Sketches Challenge:

I hope you’ll come play along with us too!  After making your sketch based holiday themed card, simply visit the Creative Sketches Design Team Blog and upload your design!

DCBD229 Upsy Daisy Sparkler

Welcome to the Diva Coffee Break Designs Challenge of the Week!  This week, we have a sketch challenge!  I hope you’ll play along with the design team and create your very own project using our sketch!

My card for today’s challenge features the Upsy Daisy Stamp Set and the colors Whisper White, Basic Black, Basic Gray, and Baja Breeze.  I’m fairly sure my friend Charlotte is going to like this card as Upsy Daisy is one of her very favorite stamp sets!

DCBD229, Diva Coffee Break Designs, Design Team, Flickr, Photobucket, splitcoaststampers, sharon field, created by you, antique brads, paper daisies

I just love polka dot designer series papers, don’t you?  This particular paper comes from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Pack.

The Upsy Daisy stamped image was ‘dazzled’ to give it some added depth… and then I decided the Paper Daisy flowers could use a little bling too!DCBD229, Dazzling Diamonds, Paper Daisies, Antique Brads, Sharon Field, Created By You, design Team

Dazzling Diamonds were added to each petal with a stripe of 2-Way Glue Pen and then added the diamonds and Antique Brads.

The sketch today calls for three separate blocks along the side of the card… connected by two focal shapes.  Although I began with three separate blocks of Elegant Soiree Designer Series Paper, the spaces got lost beneath the medium Paper Daisies… LOL, thought about re-doing the entire card, but ran out of time!

Here is the sketch for today’s Diva Coffee Break Designs DCBD 229 Challenge Sketch Diva Coffee Break Designs TeamTeam Challenge!  Hope you’re inspired to play along!  Simply upload your sketch based design to your personal blog or an online gallery (Flickr, Splitcoaststampers, Photobucket, etc) and then visit the Diva Coffee Break Designs Team blog to share your creativity with us!

UDI 37 Watercolor Fabulous Florets

I just LOVE the colors for this week’s Utah Divas International Color Challenge, and when you see the colors I’m sure you’ll understand why!

Today’s UDI37 card is one of four we made at last week’s Layers, Layers and More Layers Class.  I was kind to my students and friends, I pre-cut all the flowers so they wouldn’t have to.  I can honestly tell you that ALL their cards turned out fabulous!

Here’s my UDI37 Watercolor Fabulous Florets Card for this week’s color challenge:

Isn’t it fun?  Everyone loved the details on this card… the Perfect Polka Dots embossed Basic Gray layer, the watercolor with markers flowers, and the linen tied vintage tag.

Five tiny Basic Pearl Jewels adorn the center of the Fabulous Floret bloom… the smallest flower image in the stamp set, and the blooms were pop dotted in place with stampin dimensionals.

The sentiment on this card is from the tiny tags stamp set…

A Stampin’ Write Marker was used to enhance the tag with tiny dots around the sentiment.

Touch of Kindness Split Easel Card

When preparing for last weeks’ Cards That Move:  Twists and Easels Class, this was one of the first cards I made.  I kind of got carried away making twist, easel and pop-up cards… and today’s card share is one of those that ‘didn’t make the cut’.

Featuring the Touch of Kindness Stamp Set, this card also implements the employs the Watercolor with Markers Technique recently featured in one of my free Super Saturday Tutorials.

easel card, touch of kindness, watercolor with markers, technique, classes and events, sharon field, created by you

It’s a split level easel card… and the inside view is just about as cute as the outside!

twisted easel, touch of kindness, online shopping, created by you, watercolor with markers, technique, tutorial, sharon field, created by you

The center card stock layered ‘rail’ holds the easel upward for place while display purposes. and the inside also has a pretty Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper border too.

twisted easel, touch of kindness, online shopping, created by you, watercolor with markers, technique, tutorial, sharon field, created by you

LOL… because of the border on the inside/flat, the sender would write their message on the inside and lower front of the card, which is where the sentiment is stamped.

I love to watercolor the images from the Touch of Kindness stamp set!  The simple lines are easy enough for a beginner to attempt.  Here’s a  couple close ups showing the shadowing and coloring of bird bath and kitten stamped images:

Red Scooter Watercolor Wonder Crayons

Watercolor Wonder Crayons(WWC)… I can honestly say I haven’t touched mine in a while!  So, the other day, I pulled them out of the pencil/crayon drawer and set to work.

If you haven’t used Watercolor Wonder Crayons before, they really are fun to work with.  There are plenty of techniques for using the crayons creatively in your stamping, and they have some very distinct advantages over markers or chalks!

One of the greatest advantages is the ability to completely change the color of colored card stock.  Another is that by adding additional layers of color to the painted image, the color deepens and intensifies.

Today’s card features the On the Grow Stamp Set and was colored using an Aqua Painter and Watercolor Wonder Crayons on Bashful Blue Card Stock.

OnTheGrow, Watercolor Wonder Crayons, Scooter, Shop Online, Stampin Up, Summer Mini, Idea Book & Catalog

The initial Basic Gray stamped scooter image was outlined with Stampin’ Write Markers in colors matching the areas to be colored.  Of course, I didn’t have a Very Vanilla Stampin’ Write Marker so I used a Basic Gray Marker to enhance the image lines.

Red Scooter, On the Grow, Watercolor Wonder Crayons, Sharon Field, Summer Mini, Createdbyu, Online Shopping, Stampin up

On first application, the colors did not completely cover the Bashful Blue cardstock, after allowing the crayon colored image dry, a second and sometimes third coat was applied.  I was really impressed at how well the Very Vanilla Water Color Crayon was able to cover the seat!

A light wash of Bashful Blue crayon was applied around the entire scooter image to make it stand out or “pop” on the page…

As a finishing touch for the card’s offset layout, the upper left corner was pierced using a mat pack and paper piercing tool..

On the Grow, Summer Mini Catalog, Shop Online, Createdbyu, Stampin Up, Sharon Field, Watercolor Wonder Crayons

I had such fun using my Watercolor Wonder Crayons, that I updated my set with the new color kit (page 194 of the Idea Book and Catalog).  I already owned the neutrals set, so when the new color kit arrived, I had a complete new set to match the Stampin’ Up Color families!

The new color kit came with four new tins too… so now, instead of one huge box, my crayons are neatly organized by color family!  It sure is nice to have an alternative to use when I don’t have a whisper white or very vanilla stampin’ write marker!

In the coming weeks, I hope to re-acquaint myself with Watercolor Wonder Crayon (WWC) techniques… and will be offering a watercolor crayon technique class in mid to late June!  Be sure to check the classes and events tab for updates!

So… dust off those crayons, update your set and start playing with those crayons!  They really are a lot of fun to use!

Double Pop Up Slider Super Saturday Fun

Today’s Super Saturday Tutorial begins with an unassuming and simple Masculine Get Well Card, with a Wood-Grain and Wonderfully Worn background and triple knotted safety pin embellishment.  THAT is where the simplicity ends, LOL!

The surprise that lurks inside this card is sure to bring a smile to the recipient’s otherwise glum face… you know, that face you wear when you don’t feel well at all?

Super Saturday Tutorial, Double Pop Up Slider Card, Shop Online, Createdbyu, Stampin Up, Sharon Field

Open Sesame!  We have a scallop sponged sky background, pop up forest and bear, and a pull-out greeting!  And, best of all, we have a Double Pop Up Slider Card Super Saturday Tutorial!

Double Pop Up Slider Card, Window Sheet, Beary Nice Wishes, Shop Online, Stampin Up, Createdbyu, Sharon Field

This card is surprisingly easy to make too!  Are you ready to get started?  The stamping supplies for today’s Super Saturday Tutorial will be listed at the end of this post… the tutorial and supply list below will address the mechanics of the card!

Supplies Needed for the Double Pop Up Slider Card:

Paper:

Whisper White Card Stock Pacific Point Card Stock
Pear Pizzazz Card Stock Water Color Paper
Certainly Celery Card Stock Window Sheet

Tools & Accessories:

1-1/4” Square Punch Trimmer with Scoring Blade
1/2” Circle Punch Eyelet
Crop-A-Dile Tool Stampin’ Dimensionals
Paper Snips 1/8” Grosgrain Early Espresso
Multipurpose Adhesive Bone Folder

Card Stock Cutting and Scoring:

Pear Pizzazz (outer Shell

  • 4-1/4” x 10-5/8”” scored at 5-1/4” & 5-1/2”

Certainly Celery (inside layer, slider, and slide mechanics)

  • 4” x 4-7/8” to stamp and punch
  • 2-3/4” x 4-3/4” Slider base
  • 1” x 4” scored at 1/2”, 1-1/8”, and 1-3/4”
  • 1” x 5-1/5” scored at 1/2”, 1-1/8”, and 1-3/4”

Whisper White (inside sponged sky)

  • 3-3/4” x 4-7/8”

Crumb Cake (outer card stamped layer)

  • 4” x 4-7/8”

Important Punching Tip:

  • When punching rectangular windows with a square punch, insert punch from top edge of card stock until it butts into the card stock.
  • While keeping the punch butted to the card stock edge, move the punch over to increase the size of the rectangle.
  • Doing this will result in a rectangle with perfectly perpendicular… no fragments or edges to trim!

punch, shop online, stampin up, tips, techniques, tutorials, stampin up, sharon field, createdbyu

  1. Use Bone Folder to crease all scored lines.
  2. Stamp 4” x 4-7/8” Certainly Celery Card Stock with desired background image stamps.
  3. Use 1-1/4” punch to create an approximate 2-3/8” rectangular ‘window’ from the top edge of the stamped Card Stock using the methodology as described in tip above.
  4. Inserting punch from the bottom edge, punch a 1-1/4” square in the lower right corner of the same card stock piece. Double Pop Up Slider, Card, Tutorial, Super Saturday, punch, Stampin Up, shop online, Sharon Field, Demonstrator
  5. Turn card stock over to the non-stamped side.  Leave a 1/16” gap along the side and glue the shorter 1” strip to the lower, left edge of the rectangle so that the 1/2” score line is lined up with the bottom edge of the rectangle window.  Turn over and check to ensure the scored line is properly aligned and that the 1” strip is parallel to side edge.
  6. Glue the longer 1” strip to the lower 1-1/4” square window using the same procedure as described above.double pop up slider, card, tutorial, sharon field, created by you, shop online, stampin up
  7. Here is what it should look like from the stamped side of the card stock layer.Shop Online, Double Pop Up Slider, Card, Tutorial by Sharon Field
  8. Turn card stock over to non-stamped side.  Position the 2-3/4” x 4-3/4” slider piece so that it is just a smidgen below the top edge.  (see next photo)
  9. Keeping the 1” pieces square, fold the top edge down onto the slider piece and glue in place.double pop up slider, stampin up, shop online, sharon field, createdbyu, tutorial, blog
  10. Use the 1-1/4” Square Punch to remove a small portion of the bottom/center portion of the slider… mine was approximately 1/4” high.  Scroll down to photo in step 17 if you’re not sure (I forgot to take a photo of this step!)
  11. Place three Stampin’ Dimensionals along each long side of the slider, positioning that they are approximately 1/16” away from the slider.  This will allow the slider mechanism to move without hanging up.dimensionals, Stampin up, Sharon Field, Demonstrator, Created by You, shop online, double pop up slider, tutorial, createdbyu
  12. Attach to inside, bottom of card butting the top edge along the first scored line.
  13. Now is a good time to check that the bottom edges are even.  Because of the size, scores, and folds, one edge may protrude slightly.  Close card and use paper trimmer to trim away any uneven or extended part along the bottom of the card.
  14. Stamp, color, sponge, and cut out images to be used on the pop ups.
  15. Glue images for upper rectangle to 2” x 3-1/3” Window Sheet, positioning so that the top edge does not interfere with the fold of the card.
  16. Pull out slider so that the pop ups rise.  Place Multipurpose Adhesive on the upper rectangle FACE… the part between the bottom edge of the window and the first scored line.
  17. Attach decorated window sheet to adhesive, hold in place until set.under the stars, double pop up slider, Sharon Field, Shop Online, Stampin Up, Planet Hope, tutorial, Super Saturday
  18. Repeat same procedure for lower rectangle and desired image.
  19. Stamp and glue greeting approximately 1/4” above lower edge of pulled out slider piece.
  20. Punch a 1/2” circle from Pacific Point Card Stock, fold in half and glue to bottom/center of slider pull out.
  21. Use Crop-A-Dile tool to punch center of 1/2 circle and set silver eyelet.
  22. Thread 1/8” ribbon through eyelet, pulling ends to make them meet and tie an overhand knot to secure.

You’re done!

SFF0519 And A List of Gel Pen Tips

Hello everyone!  Welcome to Sketch Frenzy Friday!  Today I’m not only sharing a sketch based card, but also an accumulated list of Gel Pen Tips.

Today’s card features Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper, along with Fabulous Florets, Thanks for Caring, and Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Sets.

The butterfly image is from the          Stamp Set.  After stamping the image with Basic Black Classic Ink, I simply followed the lines with the brush tip of a Bashful Blue Stampin’ Write Marker to add a touch of color and added Dazzling Diamonds with the help of a two way glue pen.

LOL… it’s always difficult to capture the sparkle of Dazzling diamonds with my camera… but this my camera cooperated!

The same procedure was used for the flower outline from Fabulous Florets.  Both images were cut out and popped onto card stock using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Corner-rounded squared behind the focal image were embossed using a big shot machine and Perfect Polka Dots Textured Embossing folder.   The embossed background looked a bit flat against Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper, so I colored each of the embossed dots with a White Signo Gel Pen.

Have you ever had trouble with you gel pens drying out?  Here’s a few tips to keep your gel pens fresh and ready to go.

Gel Pen Tips

  1. Gel pens are not filled with ink, it’s paint in that tiny tube!
  2. Gel pens take longer to dry than markers.
  3. Always store gel pens horizontally (on their side).
  4. Clean the roller ball tip of the pen after each use to prevent paint accumulation and drying.
  5. If paint does dry on the tip, try removing with a little rubbing alcohol or odorless mineral spirits (aka paint thinner that doesn’t stink LOL).
  6. If the gel pen appears to have a lot of ink and/or bubbles in the tube, the paint can sometimes be pushed down to the tip by inserting a long, narrow bit of eraser into the tube.  As you push the eraser down the tube, the paint will be compressed toward the tip of the pen.
  7. This one really scares me… I’ve never tried it and probably won’t ever try it… but some people actually put the pen in a microwave for a few seconds!!  I think if I was that desperate, I’d set it point-down in a 1/2 cup of boiling water first!
  8. Replace cap immediately after use!  Don’t put it down unless the cap is on it, even for a second… it’s too easy to get distracted by kids, pets, phone, etc.

Today’s sketch was designed by Team Member Tammy Baldwin, who just happens to be the next stop on the SFF mini tour.  Be sure to stop by and leave her a sweet comment!

Won’t you come play along with us this week?  Simply upload your sketch based creation to an online gallery (Splitcoaststampers, Flickr, Photobucket, Stampin Addicts, Paper Craft Planet, etc.) Then visit the team blog at Sketch Frenzy Friday to use the linky tool at the bottom of today’s post to add your creation!

Do you have any gel pen tips not listed here?  I’d love to hear them, please share by leaving a comment!

Sharon

Collage Background CS Challenge

Do you swap?  I’ve been busily working on a ton of swaps, in between classes, club meetings and senior stampers… whew!  I hope everyone who receives them enjoys them… can’t reveal my swaps until they’ve been handed out though.  You’ll see them all in a couple weeks!

Thursday is the Creative Sketches Design Team Challenge!  Each week the challenge changes… maybe so we don’t get bored?  LOL, actually it’s so that there is something for everyone (just like you)!  This week’s challenge was to create a collage background combined with a sketch.

So… here’s my card!  I hope you like it!

CS33TSharonField9q

The images are all from the Vintage Vogue Stamp Set.  The background was stamped direct to the printed Designer Series Paper with the smallest bloom from the set, and the trailing vine.

The colors I used were Riding Hood Red, Basic Black, and Very Vanilla.  I didn’t have any Riding Hood Ribbon sitting around, and didn’t want to wait a terribly long time for dyed ribbon to dry so…

Here are a couple ribbon dying tips:

  • Instead of dying white or vanilla ribbon, use color similar to the one you need.  My ribbon was Real Red.  (Why didn’t I think of this before??)
  • Ordinarily, I would use a sponge dauber to dye the ribbon, but this time I used a stamping’ sponge, lightly pouncing the color onto the ribbon.
  • Knowing I would be tying a knot, I made sure to pounce color onto both sides of the ribbon.
  • It didn’t require a lot of ink since the ribbon was already red… and it dried before I finished my card!

CS33T_3

LOL… the Friends image in the Vintage Vogue Stamp Set is intentionally distressed.  When I first got the stamp set, I thought I wasn’t properly inking my stamp… then I took a good look at the red rubber… duh!

Remember that today’s challenge was a sketch + collage background?  Here’s the challenge sketch:

CS33T-collage-001 (2)

LOL it would have been really easy for me to use the sketch to make a soft pretty in pink and crumb cake card… but I had to turn to the other end of the spectrum for red and black!

I’ve been thinking a lot about blog candy recently… I really think it’s time to say thanks to those who leave such sweet comments on my daily posts.  So… I want to know, what is the best blog candy you ever won?  I’ll compile your answers and try to come up with something extra special for you in a couple days.

Hope you’ll play along with this week’s Creative Sketches Design Team Challenge, and I’ll see you tomorrow with a new challenge from the Sketch Frenzy Friday Design Team!

Hugs,

Sharon
