UDI#59 Summer Solstice and Fall Colors

When I first viewed today’s Utah Divas International Color Challenge, my thought immediately went to fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving themed cards.

But as I sat down in my studio and ventured down the creative path towards my ultimate card creation, I had glimpses of a fall colored version of THIS card from last spring… and/or a majestic monarch butterfly!

But my design took a turn of it’s own, and today’s UDI Challenge #59 is something altogether different than anything I had originally envisioned!UDI58_sharon_Field_on_Createdbyu_BlogspotLOL… one never knows what will happen when you sit down to stamp!!  Today’s challenge colors:  Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black, and Whisper White.   summer solstice short and sweet thank you tabBoth background “First Edition” Designer Series Paper (DSP) and Whisper White card stock were sponged with daffodil delight and Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink.

A sentiment was stamped with basic black ink, punched with the modern label punch, and then sponged with pumpkin pie and basic black ink.  “Thank You” is one of several sentiments in the tiny and classic “Short and Sweet” Stamp Set.sponging and three more brads pic3 on createdbyu.blogspotLots of Basic Black brads were added to the card for interest… five along the right side of the focal image, and three in the lower left corner of the card.photo 4 triple loop brad bow from tutorial on createdbyuBasic Black Scalloped Polka Dot Ribbon was tied in a triple loop brad bow and securely attached to the focal image using four mini glue dots.  There’s a full (free) tutorial HERE on making a brad bow if you’ve never made one and want some help.photo5_would look great with brown layers tooThe other stamp set used on today’s card was from the 2011-12 Idea Book and Catalog, page 114 called “Summer Solstice”.  Looking at the final card now, I think it would have been even prettier with Early Espresso vs. Basic Black Card Stock… what do you think?udi_059_Oct25_on_Createdbyu_Blogspot

Cute inspiration photo… remember when ALL the kids trick or treating wore cute costumes?  LOL, dating myself a little, huh?

Join us for the UDI#59 Color Challenge this week… make your color challenge inspired item and then upload the URL of your specific creation to the Utah Divas International Design Team Site… you know the drill!

Off to my stamping studio to work on Christmas Cards for this weekend’s class…. LOL, I woke up this morning with a lagging dream that I was one of many allergic to corduroy… the fabric, not the bear!  Wonder where that came from and how it will manifest itself in this weekend’s card class!

See you tomorrow with a new challenge from the Creative-Sketches Design Team!

They say in interior design that every room should have some black in it. I think it works the same with card making. A touch of black seems to anchor many color schemes. Can't wait to try this card.

Very Elegant Sharon with a hint of shabby chic. Yummy also comes to mind. The Summer Solstice is one of my fav new sets in the IBC - thanks for showcasing it so perfectly.
