DCBD237 Composition - A Style Departure

Today’s Diva Coffee Break Designs Sketch Challenge submission is a departure from my regular “style”.  Although I don’t really have a ‘regular’ card making style, LOL… this one would be better classified as a grunge or “mixed media” card.

It all started with a piece of Naturals Ivory Card Stock which I had already stamped with several images, and discarded.   You can see the original piece of card stock in the photo below… it’s the one with the Concord Crush flower on it, and the rest of the card just evolved.DCBD237, Sharon Field, Createdbyu, You're a Gem, Daring Adventure, Natures Pace, Antique Brads, Well Worn, Herringbone, Trinket Keys, Grunge, Mixed Media, Composition, Embossing, Texture

I could hear my Darling Daughter saying “Mom, step away from that card already!!”  LOL, the composition just evolved, and evolved, and evolved.

Stamps used on the original focal image/tag were Natures pace, You’re a Gem, and Daring Adventure… look closely you can see the background is stamped with both the text image and shoeprints from Daring Adventure.

Next, I added the Concord Crush Flower from Natures’ Pace, and then “love life, live life” and “4 ever” images from You’re a Gem, and then sponged and distressed the whole thing.  A hemp tied naturals button was attached to the floral center with three mini glue dots, which hold it securely in place.DCBD237, Sharon Field, Createdbyu, You're a Gem, Daring Adventure, Natures Pace, Antique Brads, Well Worn, Herringbone, Trinket Keys, Grunge, Mixed Media, Composition, Embossing, Texture

“Key to my Heart” is also from the You’re a Gem stamp set, and was punched, distressed, and added along the edge.  After adding a spinner hand, and tiny Concord Crush heart from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack, I decided it needed just a little bling, and added the Rhinestone Jewel, and then decided to give the small tag a little more weight by adding a Not Quite Navy backing piece.DCBD237, Sharon Field, Createdbyu, You're a Gem, Daring Adventure, Natures Pace, Antique Brads, Well Worn, Herringbone, Trinket Keys, Grunge, Mixed Media, Composition, Embossing, Texture

LOVE the new Well Worn Designer Series Papers, don’t you?  A bit reminiscent of patterns typically found in the Basic Gray Scrapbook line, they have a very masculine, ‘aged’ appearance… perfect for guy cards and pages!DCBD237, Sharon Field, Createdbyu, You're a Gem, Daring Adventure, Natures Pace, Antique Brads, Well Worn, Herringbone, Trinket Keys, Grunge, Mixed Media, Composition, Embossing, Texture

Textured Embossing Folders, also distressed… and topped with Antique Brads, also dark, masculine, and distressed. A hemp-tied Trinket Key, attached to the bottom-most Antique Brad was “blinged” with a Rhinestone Jewel too (key to my heart, get it?)DCBD237, Sharon Field, Createdbyu, You're a Gem, Daring Adventure, Natures Pace, Antique Brads, Well Worn, Herringbone, Trinket Keys, Grunge, Mixed Media, Composition, Embossing, Texture

Then my eye was drawn back to the tag which seemed to need a tiny Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding rose with hand cut leaves…. I see I need to glue one of them down a bit better too!DCBD237, Sharon Field, Createdbyu, You're a Gem, Daring Adventure, Natures Pace, Antique Brads, Well Worn, Herringbone, Trinket Keys, Grunge, Mixed Media, Composition, Embossing, Texture As I was assembling the card ‘elements’ the corners of the composition looked a bit void… so I added one Elegant Eggplant Brad to each corner and glued everything in place…

And then decided I wanted three brads on each corner.  Instead of ripping the whole thing apart, I just attached the additional brads on the surface of the card.

TIP:  To attach brads to the surface of the card, simply cut off the legs with cutting pliers (I keep a pair of jewelry wire cutters on my stamp table) and then attach to the surface with a rolled up Mini Glue Dot!

LOL… back to the tag again, and attached a Mini Library Clip.  That’s the point where I heard this little voice saying “Mom, step away from the card!”  So… the card and composition was pronounced complete, and I moved on to tomorrow’s challenge project.DCBD237, Sharon Field, Createdbyu, You're a Gem, Daring Adventure, Natures Pace, Antique Brads, Well Worn, Herringbone, Trinket Keys, Grunge, Mixed Media, Composition, Embossing, Texture

I saw this on the blog and had to look twice since I did not think this was your usual style. I love how it turned out. Great job!

Every once in awhile a girl just has to pull out all the stops and channel the men in her life. After all...isn't it the guys with lines like he who dies with the most toys wins? So a card with every embellishment possible...it's a guy thing. But it took a girl to make it look GOOD!! Thanks for sharing!
