SFF0519 And A List of Gel Pen Tips

Hello everyone!  Welcome to Sketch Frenzy Friday!  Today I’m not only sharing a sketch based card, but also an accumulated list of Gel Pen Tips.

Today’s card features Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper, along with Fabulous Florets, Thanks for Caring, and Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Sets.

The butterfly image is from the          Stamp Set.  After stamping the image with Basic Black Classic Ink, I simply followed the lines with the brush tip of a Bashful Blue Stampin’ Write Marker to add a touch of color and added Dazzling Diamonds with the help of a two way glue pen.

LOL… it’s always difficult to capture the sparkle of Dazzling diamonds with my camera… but this my camera cooperated!

The same procedure was used for the flower outline from Fabulous Florets.  Both images were cut out and popped onto card stock using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Corner-rounded squared behind the focal image were embossed using a big shot machine and Perfect Polka Dots Textured Embossing folder.   The embossed background looked a bit flat against Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper, so I colored each of the embossed dots with a White Signo Gel Pen.

Have you ever had trouble with you gel pens drying out?  Here’s a few tips to keep your gel pens fresh and ready to go.

Gel Pen Tips

  1. Gel pens are not filled with ink, it’s paint in that tiny tube!
  2. Gel pens take longer to dry than markers.
  3. Always store gel pens horizontally (on their side).
  4. Clean the roller ball tip of the pen after each use to prevent paint accumulation and drying.
  5. If paint does dry on the tip, try removing with a little rubbing alcohol or odorless mineral spirits (aka paint thinner that doesn’t stink LOL).
  6. If the gel pen appears to have a lot of ink and/or bubbles in the tube, the paint can sometimes be pushed down to the tip by inserting a long, narrow bit of eraser into the tube.  As you push the eraser down the tube, the paint will be compressed toward the tip of the pen.
  7. This one really scares me… I’ve never tried it and probably won’t ever try it… but some people actually put the pen in a microwave for a few seconds!!  I think if I was that desperate, I’d set it point-down in a 1/2 cup of boiling water first!
  8. Replace cap immediately after use!  Don’t put it down unless the cap is on it, even for a second… it’s too easy to get distracted by kids, pets, phone, etc.

Today’s sketch was designed by Team Member Tammy Baldwin, who just happens to be the next stop on the SFF mini tour.  Be sure to stop by and leave her a sweet comment!

Won’t you come play along with us this week?  Simply upload your sketch based creation to an online gallery (Splitcoaststampers, Flickr, Photobucket, Stampin Addicts, Paper Craft Planet, etc.) Then visit the team blog at Sketch Frenzy Friday to use the linky tool at the bottom of today’s post to add your creation!
