Bold Butterfly UDI Color Challenge 22

Welcome to this week’s Utah Divas International Color Challenge!

When I first viewed the colors for this week, all I could see was turkeys or leaves.  I had to sit back a minute and imagine other things in this palette!  Finally, it came to me..  a butterfly!

Here’s my card, featuring the “out of the box” technique and a water-colored Butterfly!

I have to tell you a secret… I really don’t care for More Mustard as a card base or color!  It reminds me of a really ugly suit one of my brothers purchased many years ago LOL!

I don’t More Mustard as an accent, particularly when doing country themed cards…and of course, it comes in really handy during Fall months and Thanksgiving… but still not my favorite or go-to color!

Here is the complete palette for today’s UDI Color Challenge, inspired by a lovely furniture piece and whimsical pillows…

udi_22The colors for this challenge are Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, Tangerine Tango, and Very Vanilla.  Looks great in the picture doesn’t it?

It took me a couple tries to get the butterfly ‘just right’… the image was inked with Versamark Ink and Chocolate Chip Classic Ink, stamped and covered with Clear EP before embossing with a heat tool.

An aqua painter was used to color in the butterfly, and then a stampin’ write marker was used to refine and define that color.  I guess it turned out ok…

When I first discovered SU, I HATED More Mustard ( and Old Olive too for that matter). Now I love OO, but still not crazy about MM, although I like it better than I used to, I still only use it for fall themed cards, as you said. But your butterfly card is gorgeous!

Beautiful card! I'm glad you used the tangerine just in the ink so it's a bit more muted. I have never been a fan of more mustard either. I've been a demo 5-1/2 years and have never bought a full pack of it. Still using what came in my one assorted pack I bought. I do use the ink more than the cardstock, but finally found a combo I like, but it sounds odd. Eggplant, burgundy and mustard.

Beautiful card... superb butterfly. So real looking. Once upon a time, I did not mind mustard but in today's world of teals and blues I have come to disregard it a bit but sometimes it is good for that vintage look and you have done a mighty great job with it.
You make awesome cards.

Happy crafting,

Monica
