Sneak Peek Occasions Mini Catalog and Sketch Frenzy Friday New Years Eve

Happy New Years’ Eve! We’re just a few days away from the new Occasions Mini Catalog… I think you’re going to like all the fabulous new products and ideas in the Occasions Mini Catalog… I’ve got a wish list almost as long as my arm LOL!

Today’s Sketch Frenzy Friday Design Team Challenge Sketch SFF123110 was created by Design Team member Jennifer Weide.  A clean and simple design (CAS), it will be easy for your to create a quick card and play along with us this week!  Jennifer created this sketch using the My Digital Studio Software (MDS)… it is very easy to use… even a caveman could use it (aren’t you sick of those commercials?  LOL).  I use MDS when creating sketch contributions and scrapbook pages as well, Contact ME to schedule a demo!

Of course, MDS can be used for so much more… scrapbook pages, complete books, cards, and custom designer series paper printing as well.  To find out more about the My Digital Studio Software, visit my online Stampin Up Store

Here’s today’s sketch:

SFF123110_Jweide

Well, I took a little liberty with the sketch… It all started out as a clean and simple (CAS) design per the sketch… and then something happened.  Inspired by new Occasions Mini Catalog products, Botanical Gazette Designer Series Paper, and Vanilla Rosettes… I also manipulated the Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder to a new size (View last weekends’ Super Saturday Framed Tulips Tutorial Here)and I’m sharing another new product sneak peek as part of my Sketch Frenzy Friday Design Team Card!

Here’s my SFF123110 Design Team Card with a few tweaks and a vintage theme:

SFF1231_SharonField

LOL.. it really did start out very simple… my plan was to use the Botanical Gazette DSP in place of the large upper rectangle per the sketch… but distracted by Vanilla Rosettes and the Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder, LOL… something just happened!

The Creative Details:

  • Two patterns from the Botanical Gazette Designer Series Paper are featured on today’s card.  Although it appears to be part of the Designer Series Paper, “Thank You” was stamped in Early Espresso Classic Ink DTP or direct to Designer Series Paper.  Marina Mist Ink color was added to the edges of the Designer Series Paper using a sponge dauber for a soft effect.
  • OK… I know you’re going to ask about the Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder!  The Garden Green Cardstock measurement is 2-1/8” square, and the Marina Mist Cardstock measurement is 1-7/8” square.  I ‘backed’ into the square sizes by starting with a 2-1/2” square of Garden Green Cardstock, and a 2-1/4” square of Marina Mist Cardstock, and cut away excess as described in the Super Saturday Tutorial last weekend.
  • The Marina Mist frame was sponged with Early Espresso Classic Ink and popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals to give more balance and frame the Vanilla Rosettes.
  • Garden Green Leaves were punched using the Two-Step Bird Extra Large Punch.  The larger leaves are actually bird wings enhanced with an embossing stylus and sponge dauber to create and highlight veining.
  • A single 1” Vanilla Rosette is balanced with two smaller 1/2” Vanilla Rosettes, attached to both leaves and cardstock with Mini Glue Dots.  (Occasions Mini Catalog Vanilla Rosettes are packaged 18/pkg. in three sizes:  1”, 3/4”, and 1/2” and may be found at the top of page 16)
  • An open scallop border punched edge frames the lower DSP print.
  • A Mini Vintage Tag (Idea Book & Catalog page 186) was stamped with a small crown in Not Quite Navy Classic Ink. and secured in place with a Stampin’ Dimensional.  Note:  If you haven’t seen these tags in person, they are quite a lovely surprise.  The ultra fine gold shimmer vanilla background paper really sparkles and shines!
  • A knot of Victoria Crochet Trim and Marina Mist Taffeta ribbon were tied around Mini Paper Clip from the Clips Assortment  (Idea Book & Catalog page 187)
  • Two tiny tags images were were stamped, punched, daubed, and clipped in place with the Mini Paper Clip.  The top tag was popped up with 1/2 of a stampin’ dimensional.
  • An open scallop border punched edge frames the lower DSP print.
  • Three basic Jewel Pearls were placed along the upper left edge of the Designer Series Paper, adding another touch of vintage elegance.

As you can probably tell, the rectangle focal image was resized smaller, the brads were changed out for pearls and moved to the upper left edge of the card… and a few extras added along the way… but that’s what makes design team cards unique!  We all tweak and twist just a little until we have the perfect card to share.

Stamps and Supplies used in today’s SFF1231 Vintage Thank You Card:

  • Stamps:  Tiny Tags, Thank You Kindly
  • Cardstock:  So Saffron, Always Artichoke, Early Espresso, Marina Mist, Garden Green, Very Vanilla
  • Designer Series Paper:  Botanical Gardens*
  • Classic Ink:  Marina Mist, Early Espresso, Garden Green, Not Quite Navy
  • Big Shot Machine and Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder*
  • Punches:  Open Scallop Border, Two Step Bird and Branch, Jewelry Tag

And, I hope your New Years’ Eve plans keep you safe and warm!

Creative Sketches–Anything Goes Stampers Creative Challenge

Wow.. if you’ve never participated in a Design Team challenge before, today’s challenge may just change that pattern!  This week, the Creative Sketches Design Team invites you to participate in an Anything Goes Challenge!!  There is no sketch, no specific cardstock or ink colors, and no  pre-defined stamps.  Your CS13 paper craft project upload can be anything.. be it card, scrapbook page, 3-D item, ATC, what ever!

With all the possibilities at hand, I can still imagine a wide variety and host of projects I could have shared… but with my busy schedule, and on a card making roll… this week’s Creative Sketches share from Created By You is a Valentine Card in Riding Hood Red, Very Vanilla, and Early Espresso.

CS13_SharonField

You’ve seen this gorgeous Love Letters Designer Series Paper before… I love using it for birthday cards, collage, and more.  The crisp designs in Riding Hood Red, Basic Black and Very Vanilla are just so easy to work with!

New Stampers:

Speaking of easy, I am often asked how does one pick cardstock and ink colors for cards and paper projects.  New Stampers will find it easier to create projects by starting off with colors they love… look at the furnishings in your home, the clothing you choose… and replicate that in a card.   Start simple!  Choose one or two colors to start… and use that color two or three times in the paper project.

My Choices and the little details:

  • The Valentine card above began with the Love Letters Designer Series Paper… Riding Hood Red and Very Vanilla polka dot pattern. Then, I selected an accent color, in this case Early Espresso.  It was really a toss up between Basic Black and Early Espresso… Basic Black would have given the card a very crisp and bold appearance… well enough, but I wanted a softer appearance for my Valentine card.
  • The Riding Hood Red Card front was embossed using the Big Shot Machine and Square Lattice Textured Embossing Folder.  A little texture goes a long way, doesn’t it?
  • The Heart focal image is from the Punch Potpourri Hostess Level 1 stamp set.  Initially, I stamped and masked it on the rectangular background Very Vanilla cardstock, but decided it was just too flat.  So the heart was stamped again with Riding Hood Red Classic Ink on a scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock, and then punched out and popped onto the background.
  • The background piece was stamped with two more background stamps, En Francais, and Wonderfully Worn, giving it an older, worn and distressed appearance.  Symbolically love withstands all.. get it?  LOL!
  • Sponge daubers were used with Early Espresso or Riding Hood Red Classic Ink to add color to all Very Vanilla edges, and a Riding Hood Red Stampin’ Write Marker was used to add dots and dashes surrounding the popped up heart/focal image.
  • I wanted just a little bit of bling on my Valentine card… so added a line of Basic Jewel Rhinestones along the lower right edge of the heart and on the punched “Happy Valentines Day” sentiment.  After considering a Double Loop Bow accent for the card, I decided on a  small knot of 5/8” Early Espresso Satin Ribbon tied to a small paper clip from the Clips Assortment to complete the final design.

Stamps and Supplies used in today’s Creative Sketches Anything Goes Valentine Card:

  • Stamps:  En Francais, Wonderfully Worn, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Punch Potpourri
  • Cardstock:  Riding Hood Red, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla
  • Designer Series Paper:  Love Letters
  • Classic Ink:  Riding Hood Red, Early Espresso
  • Big Shot Machine and Square Lattice Textured Embossing Folder
  • Accessories:  Basic Jewel Rhinestones, Extra Large Modern Label and Heart Punches, Stampin Dimensionals, Stampin’ Write Marker, Sponge Daubers

A Diva Coffee Break Designs Thank You!

The week following Christmas holiday is always quiet around our home… perhaps yours it too!  This week the Diva Coffee Break Designs Team takes a brief break, sending out a big round of THANKS to all who have played along and followed the design team this year.  DCBD  Challenges will resume in January beginning with a fabulous sketch challenge… we hope you’ll return and play along with the design team as well!

In the spirit of a round of THANKS!  Here is my thank you card for all of my readers and DCBD followers as well!

P1000454BrayeringColors

This simple brayer card was created for you using the Plant Hope Stamp Set, sponges, daubers, and of course a brayer!!  The greeting was borrowed from the Trendy Trees stamp set.  I love layering on color with markers after images have been stamped… it is a quick and easy way to add more depth and dimension to the image!

Here’s a close up of random layered color on the palm trees, it almost looks like a comic book print, LOL!

P1000452layeredColorBrayering

After stamping the trees with Basic Black Classic Ink, Old Olive and Soft Suede Stampin write markers were used to add color to the otherwise solemn trees.  The color is not added continuously, but rather with gentle strokes using the fine tip end of the dual tipped marker, giving it a more natural feel.

Stamps, Ink, and Supplies used for today’s DCBD Brayer Thank You Card

  • Stamps:  Plant Hope, Trendy Trees
  • Classic Ink:  Basic Black, Bashful Blue, Not Quite Navy, Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight
  • Cardstock:  Old Olive, Whisper White, Pacific Point, Very Vanilla
  • Accessories:  Brayer, Stampin Sponges, Sponge Daubers, Mini Library Clips, Stampin’ Write Markers, Extra Large Modern Label Punch, Post It Notes

Would you like to see some of the other cards I’ve made using the brayer?  Check out the brayer tutorials featured on the tutorials tab here on Created by You!

Hope your week is restful, fun, and filled with adventure… see you tomorrow with a fun little card for the Creative Sketches Design Team Challenge!  I think you’re going to like the fresh and fun card design and colors!

Hugs,

Sharon

Valentine Defined Cutwork UDI 16 Color Challenge

Have you ever had this happen… stamp all your images, emboss a great background, and find that everything doesn’t fit into the area you’d planned?  That’s exactly what happened when I was creating today’s Utah Divas International Color Challenge Card with the Valentine Defined Stamp Set… LOL!

Exacto knife in hand, I found a quick and simple solution… cutting around the tail feathers of the Regal Rose “Pink” Flamingo, allowing them to protrude “outside the box”…. you’ll see what I mean in a moment!

First, here is the Utah Divas International Color Challenge Cue:  Real Red, Soft Suede, Regal Rose and Blushing Bride…

UDI_16 Color Challenge Created By You

A pretty package indeed, but I’m not quite sure if it is an actual gift package or a cake covered with fondant… hmm, what do you think?  Either way, it would be a fabulous way to use up cardstock scraps and decorate plain brown packaging paper that comes with every Stampin’ Order Shipment… OR, a simple décor for a brown paper bag at Valentines Day!

I’ll have to work on both those ideas Smile  Here’s my UDI color challenge #16 card featuring another sneak peek of the Valentine Defined stamp set from the Occasions Mini Catalog!

UDI16_SharonField on Created by You

See the tail of the pink flamingo to the left?  That’s the image I should have stamped a bit more to the right… Creative Opportunity to the rescue, I like how it turned out… and an afterthought, perhaps I should have cut out the tail of the flamingo on the right and popped it up a bit to continue the dimensional feel… hmm.

Dusted off my DSRB for this one… I thought it needed a fun border below the stamped image border which is part of the Valentine Defined Stamp Set.  (DSRB:  Dotted Scalloped Ribbon Border Punch… too long to type over and over and over, don’t you think?)

I used the framed tulip textured embossing folder for this card, full size… but cut away some of the border to allow more soft suede cardstock to show on the front of my Valentine Defined Color Challenge Card.

If you look closely, you will note there is actually a little square lattice texture on the Real Red Cardstock as well.  I wanted a bit more texture on the void areas of the cardstock so put the Real Red Cardstock through the Big Shot Machine with the Square Lattice Textured Embossing Folder BEFORE running it through with the Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder.  The second run through flattened the Square Lattice texture/pattern but left a delightful “textured cardstock” appearance.. pretty cool!

Stamps and Supplies used on today’s Valentine Defined Color Challenge Sneak Peek Card:

Stamps:  Valentine Defined

Cardstock:  Real Red, Soft Suede, Blushing Bride, Very Vanilla

Classic Ink:  Real Red, Soft Suede, Regal Rose, Blushing Bride

Big Shot Machine and Accessories:  Square Lattice and Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder

Accessories:  Extra Large Designer Label Punch, Exacto Knife, Sponge Daubers, Stampin Dimensionals, Basic Jewels Rhinestones, Stampin Dimensionals

Have you fully recovered from all the Christmas company, wrapping paper, and events?  Perhaps you received a very thoughtful Stampin’ Up! gift for Christmas?  Come play along with the Utah Divas International Design Team this week… we’d love to see your creations!

Simply upload your color challenge based card, scrapbook page or project to your blog and/or online gallery (Splitcoaststampers, Stampinconnection.com, Flickr, Photobucket, etc… ) and then visit the Utah Divas International site to upload your color challenge submission using the in-linkz tool at the bottom of today’s UDI post!

Psst… if you didn’t get that special stamp, cardstock, ink, paper etc… check out my online stampin up store and Specials!

Tiny Teacups CAS 5 minute Card Design

Did you make it through the Christmas holiday in tact?  It sure is a busy time of year!  The week between Christmas and New Years is often a downtime week in our household… everyone sits back, takes a break, and relaxes.  I do, of course continue to find time to stamp and prepare for upcoming classes, Senior stamping sessions, brayer and techniques classes and other events!

Yesterday was very windy and cold here in North Florida… we even heard reports of snow flurries 1/2 hour from where I live!  It was the perfect day for a big pot of home-made Beef Vegetable Soup… served with hot Alexia Garlic Bread.  The hours I spent in the kitchen were well worth the time and effort, it was a very yummy dinner with no leftovers to spare!

Today’s card share is a 5 minute clean and simple (CAS) stamped design featuring the Tiny Teacup stamp set from the Idea Book and Catalog (page20).  Tiny Teacup is a single stamp image of the polka dotted teacup under which is printed the word ‘hello’.  As you can see in the sample below, I’ve stamped teacup and words separately in Pear Pizzazz and Real Red Classic Ink.

The teacup images were punched with the 1-1/4” extra large square punch, and mounted on off-set 1-3/8” extra large square punches in Pear Pizzazz and Real Red Cardstock.  Of course, you could simply cut and stamp the pieces if you didn’t happen to own the extra large punches.  The mounting is offset or twisted… a technique I often use for my senior stamping classes… very quick and easy to assemble, and everyone is pleased with the results.  The center Teacup is popped up with stampin’ dimensionals, while the others are glued DTP.

tinyteacupsmonday

A crop-a-dile tool was used to punch a hole along the edge of the lower left side of the card and, before cutting the ribbon from the roll, it was threaded through the punched hole and tied… wastes much less ribbon if you tie before cutting!

It’s such a quick and easy card to make, supplies are minimal and it’s perfect for dropping a line to someone you may not heard from during the holidays too!

Stamps, Cardstock and Ink used in today’s Tiny Teacup CAS 5 minute card:

  • Stamps:  Tiny Teacup
  • Cardstock:  Whisper White, Real Red, Pear Pizzazz
  • Classic Ink:  Pear Pizzazz, Real Red
  • Accessories:  Build A Bear Designer Series Paper, 5/8” Real Red Grosgrain Ribbon, Crop-A-Dile Tool, 1-1/4” and 1-3/8” Extra Large Punches, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I’ve got a really fun card for tomorrow’s Utah Divas International Design Team Color Challenge… I really think you’re going to like it!

Stay warm and healthy!

Hugs,

Sharon

Bliss-full Framed Tulips Valentine and Sale-A-Bration Sneak Peek

I hope you enjoyed yesterdays super simple Super Saturday Tutorial on re-sizing projects using the Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder!  If you didn’t happen to see it, simply scroll down to the next post or click HERE to view all my Super Saturday Tutorials!

As promised, today I’m sharing another Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder Card along with a Sale-A-Bration Catalog Product Sneak Peek!  Ordinarily I don’t pre-order Sale-A-Bration products as they are FREE with every merchandise order of $50.00 or more… but I simply couldn’t resist the fun ephemeral images in the BLISS stamp set!

Here’s my Bliss Valentine card, featuring ALL of the images from the Bliss stamp set, and a greeting from the very versatile Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set!

P1000362

I love the little bird, which is positioned along the bottom of the card… well, I love all the images in this stamp set.  If I had to pick one favorite it is the flourish shown in the center of the card.

The flourish is NOT stamped on designer series paper… so what is that, you ask?  It’s a piece of So Saffron Cardstock which was distressed by randomly smacking a Whisper White Craft Ink Pad, DTP.  (DTP:  Direct to Paper)

Whisper White Craft Ink is a pigment ink, so it is great for embossing but takes a while to dry.  A heat tool was used to dry or “set” the Whisper White Craft Ink before stamping the flourish image from Bliss onto the distressed cardstock with Not Quite Navy Classic Ink.

The butterfly image in the Bliss Sale-A-Bration stamp set contains random images, letters, and numbers.  Initially, I stamped it onto So Saffron Cardstock, but it seemed awfully dark, and the lettering didn’t ‘pop’.  On my second attempt, I stamped the image with Not Quite Navy Classic Ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock, heat set, and then added So Saffron Classic Ink to the image with a sponge dauber.

After applying a bit of Embossing Powder, and a shot with a heat tool, the butterfly was cut out with paper snips and popped onto the final card with a stampin dimensional.

A sponge dauber and Not Quite Navy Classic Ink was used to color the Paper Daisy… when applying ink, do so from the center of the flower outward to the edges and you’ll achieve more even coloration.

Although there are a lot of layers, and elements to this card, it actually was very quick and easy to assemble.  Embossing the Garden Green cardstock with the Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder, and cutting out the butterfly (and the antennae!) took a couple minutes… but all the other elements came together quickly with the help of punches, and stampin’ dimensionals.

Stamps and Supplies Used in today’s Bliss-full Framed Tulips Valentine Card

Stamps:  Bliss (Sale-A-Bration), and Teeny Tiny Wishes

Cardstock:  So Saffron, Very Vanilla, Early Espresso, Garden Green, Not Quite Navy

Inks:  Not Quite Navy, Garden Green, and So Saffron Classic Ink; Whisper White Craft Ink

Super Saturday Tutorial: Framed Tulip Embossing and Sneak Peek

Merry Christmas!!  I hope you’re surrounded by family and close friends, and having an absolutely wonderful day!  I just love this time of year, and am actually pleased that the weather is a bit crisp and cool here in Florida this week.

Last week, I shared a  Occasions Mini Catalog Product Sneak Peek which caused a bit of a stir, both here on  Created By You , and in several online stamping forums… You can view the original Valentine card, which featured the Valentine Defined Stamp Set and Framed Tulip Textured Embossing Folder HERE

Although the Framed Tulip Textured Embossing Folder is an A2 (standard card 4-1/4” x 5-1/2”) size, it can be easily manipulated to change the size, creating a very pretty border and focal image for your cards and projects.  Today’s Super Saturday tutorial will show you how to modify and manipulate this embossing folder using your Big Shot Machine.

Here’s a holiday gift tag I made using the Framed Tulip Textured Embossing Folder, and a Triple Loop Bow (Similar to the Double Loop Bow technique).  It was for a package I wrapped for a fabulous hubby who ordered Stampin’ Up! merchandise for his wife as a special surprise Christmas gift.  LOL.. although the tag may have given her a hint, I’m sure the contents were a lovely surprise when she opened that big box this morning!  "Framed Tulip" "Gift Tag"

Images on this tag are all from the Winter Post Stamp Set… I chose the Baja Breeze, Marina Mist and Brushed Silver Cardstock colors to compliment the gift wrap packaging.  A lot of guys don’t like to wrap packages (my DH included)… so I always provide gift wrapping as a customer service!

Here’s a card made using this simple modified embossing folder technique, along with “Fast and Fabulous”, “Tiny Tags” and “Bliss” stamp sets.  “Bliss” is a Sale-A-Bration stamp set which I’ve been having a LOT of fun with… Botanical Gazette Designer Series Paper is also from the Occasions Mini catalog, is showcased on the lower half of the card.Framed Tulip Embossing Folder

Step by Step Super Saturday Framed Tulip Embossing Folder Tutorial…

Basic Supplies:

  • Big Shot Machine
  • Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder
  • Cardstock of your choice

Step by Step:

  • Cut Garden Green Cardstock 2-7/8” x 5-3/8”- see TIPS (below) for additional cardstock sizes and helpful hints.
  • Insert into Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder, aligning edges of cardstock square and even with outer ridge of the embossing folder.
  • Insert embossing folder between clear sandwich plates of the big shot machine.  Note”  the long side of the embossing folder will be processed first through the embossing machine. as shown in the photo, below.Photo 1
  • Once you have put the sandwich through the Big Shot Machine, it will look like this… missing embossing along one long edge:Framed Tulip TEF Created By You Photo2
  • Re-insert cardstock into the Framed Tulips Textured Embossing folder, checking to make sure the embossed tulips in the cardstock fall precisely into the tulips of the embossing folder.  Look closely at the photo below, and you will see that they are NOT aligned… Framed Tulip TEF Photo 3 Created By You
  • Here’s a photo of what the embossing folder SHOULD look like SmileFramed Tulip TEF Photo 4 Created By You
  • Make a sandwich again with the clear plates, aligning un-embossed long edge near the top of the plate, as you did in the first photo, and place in the Big Shot Machine…. DO NOT RUN THROUGH UNTIL YOU READ THE NEXT STEP.
  • Rotate the roller mechanism of the Big Shot Machine JUST until you feel the resistance from the additional depth of the embossing folder.
  • Once you feel the resistance, only roll 3/4 of a turn and STOP…
  • Reverse the roller, and BACK OUT the embossing folder.. you are only embossing the very top edge.
  • Your finished piece will look like this:Framed Tulip TEF Photo 5 Created By You

TIPS, Hints, and Additional Information:

  • Alternate sizes of cardstock may also be used following the technique shown above.
  • It may be easier to start with a larger cardstock piece and then trim along the framed tulip border when working with alternative sizes.
  • When working with smaller pieces of cardstock, that only reach 2 of four borders when placed in the embossing folder:
    • Align only one border with the existing tulips and embossing (as shown in photo 4).
    • Work with only one edge at a time to emboss the blank edges, rolling 3/4 of a turn once resistance is felt from the Big Shot Machine.
    • Be sure cardstock is aligned perfectly square in the embossing folder, or your embossed frame will not have parallel edges!
    • Once all 4 edges are embossed, you will have one “messy” corner.  Simply place it inside the embossing folder /sandwich and align so that JUST the corner enters the big shot machine first.  When you feel resistance from the Big Shot Machine Roller, turn only 1/2 turn before backing it out.
  • When using alternative sizes of cardstock, back into the frame by cutting away excess.  Use the embossed frame as your cutting guide to re-size.

Hope you enjoyed today’s Super Saturday Framed Tulip Textured Embossing Folder Tutorial!  Tomorrow I’ll share another card made using this technique, and a sneak peek from the Sale-A-Bration Product Brochure.  Hope you’ll stop back to check it out.

I look forward to reading your comments, and seeing your embossed projects!

Have a Merry Christmas, and a wonderful day!

Hugs,

Sharon

Christmas Eve, A Wish For Peace, and Design Team Card

Merry Christmas Eve to one and all!  Today’s Sketch Frenzy Friday Design Team Card share is also a wish for Peace throughout the world!  I thought a card with “Peace on Earth”an appropriate greeting as we approach Christmas.  Today’s SFF1224 Design Challenge is a sketch designed by team member Deb Currier:

SFF122410-DebCurrier
When I first look at these sketches, I also re-sketch the design on paper so I don’t have to keep going back to the computer to review them… although I have the basic design on paper, they sometimes get changed in the migration from concept to card.  That’s exactly what I did with today’s Sketch Frenzy Friday Challenge Sketch!
Basically, I knew it was vertical card with a rectangle, two strips of cardstock or paper, and three brads, buttons or pearls.  Here’s what I did with this sketch, with a little vintage twist, and Designer Series Paper, I hope you like it!
SFF1224_Slf
The entire surface of the card, including designer series paper is actually covered with a fine layer of champagne shimmer mist (click for tutorial).  Of course, shimmer is often difficult to photograph.. on my card it is showing up like little specks of lint LOL!  Trust me, that’s not lint!
Taking a little creative license, I made one of the horizontal paper strips the sentiment for my card:  Peace on Earth.  The second horizontal strip became my ribbon and tinsel embellishment.  As you can see, I’ve migrated the brads to Basic Rhinestone Pearls.  Here’s a little close up of the details:

SFF1224_SLF2
The Sketch Frenzy Friday Design Team operates a bit like a mini blog tour… team members all create sketch based cards and link to the next blog on the list for your viewing pleasure.  The next blog on the team tour is Tammy Baldwin, of Creative Apple Scrampers.  Be sure to stop by her blog and leave a sweet comment, perhaps a “Merry Christmas” too.
If at any time you get lost during the blog tour, be sure to visit the team blog at Sketch Frenzy Friday or simply use the link list for team members on my blog side-bar.
Stamps and supplies used for todays’ Sketch Frenzy Friday Design Team Challenge:

  • Stamps:  Artistic Etchings, Four the Holidays
  • Cardstock and Paper:  Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso, Brushed Gold, Deck the Halls Designer Series Paper
  • Ink:  Versamark, and Early Espresso Classic Ink
  • Accessories:  Shimmer Mist, Champagne Shimmer Paint, Dazzling Diamonds, Paper Piercer, Stampin Dimensionals, Chantilly Crochet Trim (Lace), Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding, Snail Adhesive, Very Vanilla Embossing Powder, Moonlight Smooch, Tinsel, Antique Brads, Basic Jewel Pearls, Mini Glue Dots, Powder Pals, Embossing Buddy, Heat Tool
Have a wonderful Christmas Eve… If you have a quiet moment on Christmas Day, I’ll have a new Super Saturday Tutorial for your viewing… and a special tutorial themed card as well.

Jolly Little Sparkling Snowman… Quick and Easy CS12

This week’s Creative Sketches Design Team challenge is both a sketch and a theme.  The theme is Holidays… I truly debated which holiday to feature and actually made a Valentine card with sneak peek product from the Occasions Mini Catalog.  But… it is Christmas week, and I thought I’d better showcase a Christmas Holiday themed card to honor the season.  So, the Valentine card will wait… hope you like today’s sketch, theme, and card!

CS12

It’s Christmas week, and I simply couldn’t resist playing with the Jolly Old St. Nick Stamp set just one more time… I love the jovial images which always bring a smile to my heart!  Here’s my Design Team Card submission… hope you like it!

CS12_Holidaya

The card base is Early Espresso Cardstock.  The jolly snowman was stamped with Basic Gray Classic Ink onto Watercolor Paper, and color added with Aqua Painters and Stampin’ Write Markers.  I like using Basic Gray Classic Ink because it dries a bit quicker than Basic Black which is semi-permanent.

I know you’re going to ask… the ovals were traced onto the reverse side of Watercolor Paper and Brushed Gold Cardstock and hand cut… I wanted them just slightly larger than the snowman image!

Big Shot Multipurpose Adhesive was applied to the brushed gold cardstock, and then Dazzling Diamonds spooned over the sticky surface… it really glitters and almost glows in person!  Here’s a close-up:

CS12_Holidayb

I wanted the dazzling diamonds to have the ambiance of gently falling snow… so used a Xyron tape runner to apply adhesive to the watercolor paper.  The Xyron applies dots of adhesive, similar to Stampin’ Up Dotto… but in a wider swath of adhesive…. and that’s why you see ‘dots’ of diamonds surrounding the snowman.

Although I considered applying shimmer mist to the background designer series paper, for some reason (unknown) I opted to leave it plain.  I liked the implied movement provided by the swirls on the Baja Breeze Elegant Soiree Designer Series Paper… made me feel as though the wind was blowing.. get it?

Stamps, and Supplies used for todays’ Jolly Sparkly Snowman Card:

  • Stamps:  Jolly Old St. Nick
  • Cardstock and Paper:   Brushed Gold, Very Vanilla, Early Espresso, Watercolor Paper, Elegant Soiree Designer Series Paper
  • Classic Ink:  Basic Gray

Color Challenge Design Team Silhouette Sentiments Embossed Card

In the midst of winter weather, and Christmas, today’s Utah Divas International Design Team Color Challenge is like a fresh breath of spring.  The crisp, fresh and fun colors remind me of flowers in spring.  Today’s UDI 15 color challenge features cardstock and ink colors of Old Olive, Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzazz, Pretty in Pink, and Very Vanilla.

For this challenge, I chose to use each and every cardstock color, plus Very Vanilla and the Silhouette Sentiments Hostess Level 1 Stamp set from the Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog.  My hostesses really love this stamp set, some have even submitted book parties just to acquire it.. just another option to the in home demo and workshop Smile   Contact Me to set up your own in-home demo, workshop, or book party… you’re going to have so much fun with your crafty and creative friends!

Here’s the UDI official challenge photo… bright and cheery, fresh and fun!

And of course, here is my Silhouette Sentiments card based on the Utah Divas International Color Challenge of the week!  I chose to add simple embossing and distressing techniques to the card… a little bling is fun too along the Teeny Tiny Wishes sentiment!

UDI#15_SharonField

All embossing was done using a Very Vanilla embossing powder, and a heat tool.  When I showed this pretty little card to my Stamp Club members, they immediately wanted to know how I created the shadow around the Silhouette Stem Embossed images.  Truthfully, I didn’t really think the camera would pick that up… but it sure did!

The shadow around the stamped images was created with a VersaMark Ink Pen.  I used the brush end of the marker and actually it was added to the card because of what I call a “creative opportunity”… I can see my customers and friends smiling right now… they know that there is no stress to stamping, because it is an art form which allows the stamper to explore alternatives to perfect!

My “creative opportunity” evolved when I wasn’t quite happy with the ink coverage of one of the images.. I wanted a distressed and worn appearance… but I wanted full coverage!   So, I quickly grabbed a VersaMark Ink Pen, appended the image and added more embossing powder, and heated to cure!

While improvising, I happened to notice that the shadow really enhanced the image as well, making it stand out a bit more… so guess what?  They all got a touch of VersaMark Ink Pen!

Stamps and Supplies used for today’s Silhouette Sentiments UDI 15 Card:

  • Stamps:  En Francais, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Silhouette Sentiments
  • Ink:  Versamark, Very Vanilla Craft Ink
  • Cardstock:  Old Olive, Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzazz, Pretty in Pink, and Very Vanilla
  • Accessories:  Modern Label Extra Large Punch, Sponge Dauber, Basic Jewel Rhinestones, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Heat Tool, Very Vanilla Embossing Powder, Powder Pals, Embossing Buddy

Hope you enjoyed today's Utah Divas International Card Share!  Visit the UDI blog and play along with the design team this week… we’d love to see your creative cards, projects, and pages!

See you tomorrow with a sketch challenge from the Diva Coffee Break Designs Team!

Stay warm, healthy, and safe!

Valentine Card New Product Sneak Peek and Guest Stamper Too!

With Christmas just 5 days away, I thought you would enjoy a little break from all the holiday hustle and bustle… I’ve got all my gifts wrapped and ready, and my customer gift orders wrapped and ready to go too!  All that’s really left to do is make all those yummy cookies, Chocolate Kahlua Cheesecake, and a few special Christmas appetizers… So today I’m taking a break and sharing a special card from Guest Stamper Robbie Rubala of Inkedx2, and a Valentine Card I’ve made featuring new products from the Occasions Mini Catalog.

I’m having so much fun with my new Occasions Mini Catalog pre-order merchandise!  The Valentine Defined Stamp Set and Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder have been a lot of fun!  I’ve got tons of card ideas floating around my head based on this very versatile stamp set too… It’s truly got the makings of a fabulous kit by mail and/or stamp camp… are you interested  use the Contact Me tab at the top of the page or simply leave me a comment!  Here’s my card:

CS12Holiday_SharonField

If you look closely at the far right edge of the valentine card sample, you can see that the bleeding hearts (Dicentra Spectrabilis) Plant actually travels outside the 1-1/4” punched square… I actually cut the tiny heart out, and added it back onto the stamped plant image, just for fun.  Also, just for fun… Click HERE if you’d like to see an actual “REAL” Bleeding Hearts Plant!

The Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder is actually the same size as a standard A2 Card front…. but in today’s card, I’ve double embossed it to frame out my film strip of Valentine images.  A Whisper White Craft Ink Pad and sponge dauber were used to add a touch of color to the raised, embossed detail of the card, and a Double Loop Bow attached with mini glue dots to finish it off… isn’t it fun?

I received this pretty card in the mail as a RAK from fellow Sketch Frenzy Friday design team member  Robbie Rubala this week.  I love the colors and watermark stamping on the card… and the glimmer brads are pretty cool too!  Robbie’s card uses stamp images from the Just Believe Stamp Set.  Be sure to check out her blog Inkedx2 and leave her a sweet comment!

I Have a Little Secret, CAS 5 minute Valentine Card Too!

I have a little secret, one which will tell you much about where I am from… it has nothing to do with Stamps, ink, paper, or stampin up!  My little secret is here in my refrigerator.. and you’re going to laugh if you’re from the Midwest:  I have Vernors Ginger Ale in my refrigerator... and I’m NOT sick!

Many of you will chuckle when you read this… but for those who don’t know the lore of Vernors Ginger Ale:

  1. If you were raised in the Midwest, we called it POP.
  2. Our parents’ didn’t allow us to have pop or soda except on special occasions.
  3. We only got Vernors when we had the flu or an upset stomach!  (No flat coca cola for us!)
  4. It’s great with a couple scoops of ice cream!
  5. Now that we can get Vernors Ginger Ale in Florida, we don’t have to beg family members and travelers to smuggle it in from the Midwest!
  6. People who love Vernors will rarely settle for any other Ginger Ale product!

With all that chatter, I suppose my hand stamped card share today should feature ginger today, but it doesn’t… LOL!

Stamps and Supplies for Today’s Valentine Sneak Peek Product Share:

  • Stamp:  Valentine Defined (Occasions Mini Sneak Peek)
  • Cardstock:  Melon Mambo, Basic Black, Whisper White
  • Classic Ink:  Basic Black, Melon Mambo
  • Accessories:  Big Shot Machine, Framed Tulips Textured Embossing Folder (Occasions Mini Sneak Peek), Itty Bitty Punch Pack, Black Brads, mini Glue Dots, Stampin Dimensionals, Basic Jewels Pearls, 5/8” Basic Black Satin Ribbon

I’m really having some fun with the new Framed Tulips Textured Impressions Folder!  Here’s my Clean and Simple (CAS) 5 minute Valentine card…

Hope you like it Smile  If you’d like me to send you an Occasions Mini Catalog and/or Sale-A-Bration Brochure, please use the Contact Me tab at the top of the page.  I’m booking workshops for February Sale-A-Bration, be sure to book yours ASAP!

Back to Vernors Ginger Ale:

That 3rd fact is really a strange one, I always wondered why we weren’t allowed to have Vernors unless we were ill… so I googled it yesterday and come up with some interesting information!

Vernors Ginger Ale was invented in 1866 by James Vernor, a Detroit pharmacist, and is America's oldest soft drink. In 1862, James Vernor was called off to serve in the Civil War. According to legend, he left a mixture of ginger, vanilla, and spices sitting in an oak cask. When he returned from battle four years later he opened the keg and found the drink inside had been changed by the aging process in the wood. It was like nothing else he had ever tasted and he declared it "Deliciously different" which remains the drink's motto to this day.   Read the full story and blog post HERE.  OR Vernors’ full history on World Lingo.

There’s even a fan page for Vernors on Facebook

It’s not just lore, there is something behind that item #3 and upset stomachs… I remember many years ago when I was an Overseas Operator with AT&T, I was suffering from a very sore throat and a telephone operator in Bogotá, Columbia suggested I put slivered ginger in my cheek to help it heal.. and it worked!  Turns out Ginger has a myriad of health benefits, including antioxidant properties!  Check out this article by Kayla R!

I still don’t drink soda or pop very often… I prefer water or flavored calorie and sugar free seltzer… I actually purchased the Vernors Ginger Ale a couple weeks ago as a recipe ingredient… but I’m really enjoying the refreshing flavor of this little treat!

Have a fabulous day!

Hugs,

Sharon

Super Saturday Tutorial: Christmas Candle

With a new product sneak peek too!

Last week, I was really racking my brain for a Super Saturday Tutorial, and then I happened across an interesting digital candle tutorial… Yeah, I could do this digitally, but I thought it would really be stunning as a 3 dimensional paper candle embellishment for a card or scrapbook page.  So off to my stamp room I went to create a fun and easy 3-d paper candle, also known as today’s Super Saturday Tutorial!

If you’re new to this site, Super Saturday Tutorials are always free, and published each week here on Created By You.  If you have an idea for a Super Saturday Tutorial you would like to address, please feel free to contact me using the tab at the top of the page.   Here’s a peek at the card… I will show you a larger photo and close up in the tutorial.Sharon Field Created By You

      • Layer pieces of candle, using Tombow Multi Adhesive.  Note:  in this picture, the Wide Oval was not embossed… I changed that before the final card was completed SmileP1000218
