Butterfly Garden Card CAS

Another CAS, i.e. Clean and Simple card today… this one features Stampin’ Up! embosslits, punches, and textured embossing folders too!  This is a wonderful workshop WOW demo card… a lot of product and yet very easy to create!

unf_and_seniors_samples 001

Isn’t it clean and crisp?  I love the bashful blue, so saffron, whisper white, and old olive combination, don’t you?  There are a lot of little details on this card too, lots of texture and dimension!  This card was a BIG hit at my Senior Stampin’ session last week… of course, they love the Big Shot machine, it’s so simple and easy to use!  The FREE scallop trim punch was a big hit too… it adds so much to the card, and also punches with very little waste!  The punch is printed with guides telling you exactly where to align your cardstock when you begin to punch… the only thing that could make it easier is if I did it all for you ;)

Merry Christmas… a January Photo or Recipe Layout

Have you looked at all those photos you took during the Christmas holiday yet?  Now is a great time to scrapbook those memories and photos!

This 8 1/2” x 11” format provides additional space for photos, recipes, and journaling.  Wouldn’t it be a great place to feature Grandma’s special cookie recipe, show a picture of you helping to bake them, and tell the story of what fun you had that day?

 unf_and_seniors_samples 013

I’m always amazed at how much just a little rubber stamping can add to a scrapbook page… the pages become so unique, custom, different.  A little sponging to the edges of page elements can make a big difference too…  Look at the flower in the page above, and then look at the same flowers adorning the page below…

unf_and_seniors_samples 012

The flower on the first page was highlighted with ink to match the cardstock using a small sponge dauber.  I really like the first one better!  Which do you prefer?

In the sample above, I’ve also added embossing to the focal point using the Stampin’ Up! Elegant Bouquet Embossing Folder.  The embossing adds additional texture and interest don’t you think?

This was another of the recipe scrapbook layouts featured at my University of North Florida Scrapbook Class this week.  The class is part of the Osher Life Long Learning Institute program (aka OLLI), which offers non-credit classes to the 50+ community here in Jacksonville, Florida.  OLLI classes are offered by other universities in the US too… check for an OLLI in your area, I believe you’ll be pleasantly surprised by all they have to offer!

Another Clean and Simple Quick Card for Beginners and Workshops

Lovely as a tree… what a classic and timeless stamp set!  You’ve probably seen so many cards made with this stamp set that you cannot even begin to count them!  This card was designed for my University of North Florida beginners class, but it’s always a sure hit and WOW! in a workshop setting too!

unf_and_seniors_samples 011Check out the tiny scallops surrounding the tree/focal point of this card!  Aren’t they cool?  No punching either!  The tree was stamped onto the new Occasions Mini Catalog "Hugs” Love Notes!  At 2 1/4” x 4” the scallop edge ‘hugs’ are a perfect add-on for cards!  Cutting the Old Olive background just a 1/4” larger, and using my corner rounder (punch) added a special element to this clean and simple, quick and easy card, don’t you think?

Recipe Scrapbooking, preserving your memories in style!

Yesterday’s class at the University of North Florida was great fun!  We shared stories, and created three two-page layouts suitable for photos or recipe scrapbooking.  This page was scrap-lifted from one I created a couple months ago as 6x6 pages.  This time, I’ve re-created a similar 2-page spread in a convenient 8.5 x 11” layout.

unf_and_seniors_samples 014 unf_and_seniors_samples 016

Aren’t they fun?  Don’t you just love the finial press embossing folder from Stampin’ Up!  Everyone comments that the natural ivory page elements look just like old tin ceiling tiles.

Did not have the little turkey’s google eyes in place when I took the photo (oops!)  Also, when I went to my paper stash to find ‘just the right’ old olive Designer Series Paper, I realized I didn’t have anything but some leftover Kiwi Kiss DSP!  WOW!  So I opted for a quick fix which you can use to recycle your DSP and make it match the project in mind:  Grab a nice wheel (in this case Vintage Vogue) and the color ink you want (Old Olive) and roll the pattern/color onto the DSP… everything now matches just right!

The original 6x6 layout was posted here during October 2009.  If you would like, you can View the original 6x6 layout HERE!

What a great card for a workshop or beginner stamping class!  This one uses a variety of products, punches, and it’s so clean and simple too!

Learning to Stamp in Jacksonville, FL. Simple, Creative Opportunities

I have been teaching beginning stamp classes here in Jacksonville, FL. for nearly 5 years… It is always so much fun to introduce this hobby to beginners!  I love to see the glow in their eyes, and enjoy the sense of accomplishment as they admire their new creations!  The design of the beginner card is of course to show them what THEY can do, not what I can do.. something that Stampin’ Up! reiterated this year at the Leadership Conference in Phoenix, Arizona too!

This is one of the beginner cards which we will do next week…

unf_and_seniors_samples 005

The marker dots were added along the bottom of the Whisper White Cardstock because I made a boo-boo.  In my classes, I also tell people that there are no mistakes, only Creative Opportunities… If I hadn’t made the smudge, I may not have thought to add a row of soft suede dots!  Kind of like the effect… and it’s not perfect.. but it is a handmade card… we can save perfect for competitions, it’s really OK as a teacher to share your mistakes with your students… everyone makes them, after all!

Supplies

Stamps:  Bird On a Branch, Friends 24/7

Card Stock:  So Saffron, Whisper White, Soft Suede

Accessories:  Scallop Edge Punch, Mat Pack and Piercing tool, Polka Dot Soft Suede Grosgrain Ribbon, Versamark Ink, Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker, and Soft Suede Classic Ink.

I have been so busy prepping for upcoming classes.. sorry about the randomness of my posts!  I’m just beginning to dig out, and have 8 commitments in the next 7 days… once that has passed, I hope to be back bloggin’ daily.  Thanks for hanging in there!

My Big Shot does Shabby Chic!

These flower folds Shabby Chic pins are so popular… similar broaches can even be found in the Coldwater Creek Catalog for $14.95.  I can show you how to make your own.. for much less, using my Sizzix Big Shot machine!

bigshot_fabric_Items 002

Isn’t it cute?  I wore this pin to lunch today, and my friends demanded it be passed all around the table.  TODAY, my flower was a pin.. but TOMORROW, perhaps I’ll attach it to a headband.. or a barrette.. or some velcro for that sweet new baby girl.

The back is finished neatly too..

bigshot_fabric_Items 003

For a limited time, I can show you and your friends how to make this flower pin* when you host an in-home Stampin’ Up! Workshop with me.  There are tons of things you can do with our Big Shot machine and dies… they are great for scrapbooking, making cards, and fabric too!  Call me today to book your workshop.. dates are limited, make sure you call early!  You can earn additional free products and free stamps too!  (*fabric selections may vary)

I look forward to hearing from you!

Hugs,

Quilting with my Big Shot.. 1 hour project!

This morning, I decided to put together a quick big shot quilt using the versatile Stampin’ Up! exclusive scallop square die, and my Big Shot machine.  Unlike most the sizzix dies, this one is clear so that you can see the patterns and design you are cutting out!

bigshot_scallopsqure_denimnflannel The picture above shows squares cut from both flannel and denim which were used in the quilt.  You can cut up to 8 layers of standard cotton quilting fabric with the steel ruled dies!  When using denim, upholstery fabric, or other heavier fabrics, you will need to let your Big Shot machine tell you whether it can take that big of a bite… If it is resisting when you are rolling, then remove a layer or two.. it’s that simple!  AND.. it’s even quicker than rotary cutting squares and shapes.. WOW!

For those who know me personally, you know I have been a quilter for years… and have won blue ribbons for hand appliquéd and hand quilted miniatures… Arthritis has slowed my hand work down significantly… but with the big shot, all I can say is WOW.. dust off that machine, and WOW!  Want to see the quilt that I made this morning in an hour?

raggy_denim_n_flannel square quilt

The reverse side is fun too.  This is a “raggy quilt” technique in which the edges get softer, and more raggy as you wash the quilt over and over,  There are two layers of flannel on this quilt… and on the back.. well, look at the back..

raggy side view denim n flannel quilt

This is the reverse side.. it’s denim!  I recycled an old pair of jeans and cut four layers of denim at a time with the scallop square die.  As you sew the intersections, the seams are pushed alternatively to one side, and then the other… when this quilt is washed repeatedly the seams get softer and softer.  Here is a close-up of the denim side…  the pink, green, and polka-dot flannel layers are showing on this side.

close up denim side quiltThis is just one of many different quilts and fabric projects which can be made with the Stampin’ Up! exclusive dies… If your group does charity quilts for preemies, Ronald McDonald House, Catholic Charities, just imagine how quick and easy you could mass produce theses quilts!!

I’d love to show you how fast and fun it is to cut fabric and make a big shot fabric project of your own!  Call me today to get a demonstration for your group, or to book your in-home demonstration and workshop.. and pssst.. you can earn free stamps too!

You’re going to LOVE cutting out fabric with the Big Shot and the Stampin’ Up! Exclusive Dies!

Pressed for time, I only made 25 of these swap cards (and I made 41 of the Over the Top Swap cards featured last week)… I hope some of you were the lucky recipients!

Wow…I have to say Wow Again!

I play with ink and rubber stamps each and every day... I have stenciled my walls, borders and pillows, I have won blue ribbons for quilting, I have done crochet and knitting, and I have done one stroke painting.. but this is something I have never attempted (and probably never will)....

My friend Tee painted a mural on the wall for a baby's room (for those who know, it is Eva's grand child... ) and it is GORGEOUS.. the pictures do not do it justice.  Every time I think Tee is talented, she proves that I have no idea how much talent she has.. I am so glad she is part of my team and my friend...  She shares so much creativity and talent with all of us.. check out her latest mural HERE on her BLOG!!

Kind of a let down after seeing Tee's fabulous artwork.. here is the swap that I did for my upline's last meeting...  she always tells us to dummy it down, kind of difficult but I do try..

I’ll share more of the swaps from the meeting tomorrow… got to get my act together here :)  I know Esther will be happy !!

Stampin’ Addicts Sale-A-Bration Tour Stop #6 Jan 16th - 18th

You have probably just come from Joyce’s Blog… If not, be sure to click back or forward all the way through the tour until you reach my blog again!  The links are provided at the bottom of this post.

Sale-A-Bration is a great time in the SU! world, if you’re not familiar with it, then you need to know that we give away FREE STAMPS!!  This tour stop will feature the elegant and whimsical FREE stamp set “Whimsical Words”.

This first, in classic Basic Black and Vanilla features pop ups on the inside and out.  I used the new small heart punch from the Occasions Mini Catalog… but just couldn’t make a ‘black heart’ card so popped the hearts up a bit with stampin’ dimensionals.

Here’s the interior view of the cards.. both the words and the scalloped heart float and pop from the upper half of the card, and I’ve popped the small hearts again with 1/2 of a Stampin’ Dimensional.

Valentines’ Day is not far away… this card features the Trendy Trees Stamp set used in an unusual way… The tall, narrow tree has cut down and attached to a trunk piece from the stamp set… and one of the trees becomes the quills for the arrow too!

Vanilla Hodgepodge Hardware, and polka-dotted grosgrain also enhance the card… I love the arrow, don’t you?

One last card… for a sweet baby girl…

Again, the small heart punch was used to highlight the color from the Pretty in Pink Satin Ribbon.  Here, the reverse side of the Finial Press Embossing Folder was used for the very vanilla card front layer.  And the Polka Dot Embossing Folder was used for the smaller piece, and then enhanced by dragging across my Pretty in Pink Classic Ink Pad.

Well.. I got up at 545 EDT this morning to make sure I had my cards and post completed in time for the tour… and seem to be running a bit late so I’m going to cut this short… The tour begins officially at 12noon EDT.. I hope you’ll visit all the stops.. links, etc. will remain up and active through Monday.

Thanks for stopping by… I look forward to your comments!

New Classes Forming.. register NOW!!

This winter, I am exploring a new (to me) venture with the Osher Life Long Learning Institute, aka OLLI program at the University of North Florida.  To kick off the season, there is a teacher meet 'n greet session tomorrow morning at the UNF University Center (free parking.. no pass required).

The OLLI program has been active at the University of North Florida for 4 years.  With a low annual membership fee of just $45.00, members can take an assortment of classes in language, history, literature, and of course art to name just a few.  Most the classes have little or no fee associated with them, registrants pay applicable supply fees directly to the teachers.  Youn can find out more about OLLI and the class offerings on their website, simply click >>HERE<<

My classes will begin at the end of January, and will run for four weeks each.  The classes offered will be beginning card making, and Scrap Your Recipes (in a convenient 8.5 x 11 format).  Fees are minimal... around $10.00 for all four classes.

I hope you will come out for the meet and greet tomorrow, I am looking forward to meeting some of you in person!

This weekend I will be participating in a 3 day blog hop based on the Sale-A-Bration catalog... tomorrow's post will tell you more about that... now back to stampin'!!

Back Home in Cold, Cold Florida!

I know I have not posted in a while... as many of you know I attended the Stampin' Up! Leadership convention in Phoenix, Arizona last week. My husband also attended with me, and we extended our visit into a week-long mini vacation. He had never seen the Grand Canyon, or Sedona Arizona.. so those were the first stops on our tour!

The Grand Canyon was beautiful of course, but very, very COLD. It was also very windy... and although I just about froze to death, we did survive! There was snow and ice on the ground everywhere, and after an overnight stay we headed south to warmer weather.

Destination: Lake Havasu City, Arizona

Wow, all I can say is that Lake Havasu City is my newest favorite destination in the US.. well, second most favorite destination! San Francisco will always be my heart's favorite :) For those who are unfamiliar with Lake Havasu City, it is the home of the famous London Bridge! What a site that was! Solid granite, stretching across the Colorado River, it must have been some feat to relocate and transport from London, England!

We stayed at the London Bridge Resort... and that was a special treat too! We had a king deluxe suite with full wireless internet, a 2 person jacuzzi, full kitchen, patio, and living room... It was off season for the resort.. our room usually books around $389 per night at peak season, and business was so slow that the manager gave us a rate of $79. We had originally intended to drive to Scottsdale the next day but the acomodations were so nice we stayed two nights! Lake Havasu City is definitely on our list for possible retirement living when we hit the lottery :)

Normally on vacations, I lose weight... we eat three meals a day and my metabolism kicks in and does what it is supposed to do when I'm not skipping meals and/or forgetting to eat! I believe this vacation, however I may have gained a pound or two... we did a LOT of walking.. but we also had a LOT of good food everywhere we went (EVEN at the Phoenix airport!!)

I have to say Arizona is one of the most polite and friendly states I have ever visited... We never even heard an angry or foul word the whole time we were here.. what a pleasant surprise! Oh.. and only an occasional siren from an emergency vehicle! Just a really pleasant trip all in all!

Club meeting is today... and Neptune beach Seniors will also begin meeting today at 2pm.. hope to see you there!

A Few Tips for You

Tip Number One:

Recently I noticed my refillable tombow adhesive roller seemed to be 'eating' more tape than it was applying to card stock. Has this ever happened to you? It seems that although the tape roller is about 1/4" wide... you barely get any tape on your project.

After close examination of the cartridge holder, I realized that adhesive was stuck to the gear wheels driving the holder as well as the opening and nose of the holder... the tape was sticking to the gears before it even got to the opening of the tape holder!!

Well, here's a solution!! Because the roller is refillable, simply remove the adhesive cartridge and drench the tombow cartridge holder with goo-gone. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes and amazingly, the adhesive will dissolve. Use a paper towel to gently rub and remove the dissolved adhesive.

Goo-Gone does leave an oily residue on your holder. Wash the holder with warm, soapy water to remove all the residue... and you're good to go!!

Tip Number Two:

Normally I use Mini Glue dots to attach ribbon to cards... but when making the red and vanilla valentine card in my last post, I decided to layer a wider ribbon with a more narrow (less than 1/4") ribbon. Glue dots did not give me a tightly layered effect, so I decided to use my tombow tape roller to attach the plaid grosgrain ribbon to the satin ribbon.

Here's the problem: The ribbon is narrower than the tape... what a mess!! If I run tape on the ribbon, excess goes onto my grid paper.. and I've got extra tape all over the place.

Solution: I used a LOT of Dimensionals on these projects and just happened to have an empty piece of the dimensionals backer paper sitting at my work surface. I put the ribbon on the shiny/slick side of the empty backer paper, and ran the adhesive along the complete length of the narrow ribbon. The adhesive ONLY stuck to the ribbon... no overflow, no extra sticky surfaces... good to go! I will definitely keep my backer paper around for use in projects from now on!

I noticed a couple comments requesting a bow tutorial, and a pop up 'buried hearts' tutorial... yes, your comments have been heard! Stay tuned and I hope to provide you with both in a couple weeks.

Have a wonderful day... hope it really doesn't snow in Florida.. that is just WRONG, isn't it!

Pinking Hearts Punches – SA Tour Stop #2

Welcome to CreatedByU, and Stampin’ Addicts Blog Tour Stop #2!  The tour will officially begin at Noon EDT.  You may have come here from stop #1 StellarStamps, or this may be your first stop on the tour.  All stops are linked and looped… so just click through until you get back to where you started.

This stop will feature 3 projects using the NEW Occasions Mini Catalog Pinking Hearts Border and Corner Punches from Stampin’ Up!

You’re going to love the new merchandise in the Occasions Mini Catalog…  Here is the first card for your viewing, using the pinking hearts border, Very Vanilla, Real Red, and Pretty In Pink Card Stock (and a sneak peek of some of the other products which will be featured on the tour)!

The pinking hearts border can also be ‘buried’ so that it appears to be a pinked edge like the top edge of this card… and the corner punch nicely frames images and words too…

Saving the best for last…. combining punches, and dimensionals for a special card… wait until you see the inside view…

Pop-up hearts… now isn’t this fun?  And, I’ve used the pinking hearts border on the inside of the card too… why shouldn’t the inside be just as fun as the outside of a card?

Hope you enjoyed this Stampin’ Addicts Tour Stop… hope you’ll follow along and/or bookmark my site.

The next exciting stop on the tour will feature the “With All My Heart” stamp set from the New Occasions Mini Catalog.  Sarah has worked very hard to create very special samples for you…

Continue to the SA Blog Tour Stop Number 3 SARAH’s Inkspot NOW.

And… thanks for visiting!
