Creative Sketches–Anything Goes Stampers Creative Challenge

Wow.. if you’ve never participated in a Design Team challenge before, today’s challenge may just change that pattern!  This week, the Creative Sketches Design Team invites you to participate in an Anything Goes Challenge!!  There is no sketch, no specific cardstock or ink colors, and no  pre-defined stamps.  Your CS13 paper craft project upload can be anything.. be it card, scrapbook page, 3-D item, ATC, what ever!

With all the possibilities at hand, I can still imagine a wide variety and host of projects I could have shared… but with my busy schedule, and on a card making roll… this week’s Creative Sketches share from Created By You is a Valentine Card in Riding Hood Red, Very Vanilla, and Early Espresso.

You’ve seen this gorgeous Love Letters Designer Series Paper before… I love using it for birthday cards, collage, and more.  The crisp designs in Riding Hood Red, Basic Black and Very Vanilla are just so easy to work with!

New Stampers:

Speaking of easy, I am often asked how does one pick cardstock and ink colors for cards and paper projects.  New Stampers will find it easier to create projects by starting off with colors they love… look at the furnishings in your home, the clothing you choose… and replicate that in a card.   Start simple!  Choose one or two colors to start… and use that color two or three times in the paper project.

My Choices and the little details:

  • The Valentine card above began with the Love Letters Designer Series Paper… Riding Hood Red and Very Vanilla polka dot pattern. Then, I selected an accent color, in this case Early Espresso.  It was really a toss up between Basic Black and Early Espresso… Basic Black would have given the card a very crisp and bold appearance… well enough, but I wanted a softer appearance for my Valentine card.
  • The Riding Hood Red Card front was embossed using the Big Shot Machine and Square Lattice Textured Embossing Folder.  A little texture goes a long way, doesn’t it?
  • The Heart focal image is from the Punch Potpourri Hostess Level 1 stamp set.  Initially, I stamped and masked it on the rectangular background Very Vanilla cardstock, but decided it was just too flat.  So the heart was stamped again with Riding Hood Red Classic Ink on a scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock, and then punched out and popped onto the background.
  • The background piece was stamped with two more background stamps, En Francais, and Wonderfully Worn, giving it an older, worn and distressed appearance.  Symbolically love withstands all.. get it?  LOL!
  • Sponge daubers were used with Early Espresso or Riding Hood Red Classic Ink to add color to all Very Vanilla edges, and a Riding Hood Red Stampin’ Write Marker was used to add dots and dashes surrounding the popped up heart/focal image.
  • I wanted just a little bit of bling on my Valentine card… so added a line of Basic Jewel Rhinestones along the lower right edge of the heart and on the punched “Happy Valentines Day” sentiment.  After considering a Double Loop Bow accent for the card, I decided on a  small knot of 5/8” Early Espresso Satin Ribbon tied to a small paper clip from the Clips Assortment to complete the final design.

Stamps and Supplies used in today’s Creative Sketches Anything Goes Valentine Card:

  • Stamps:  En Francais, Wonderfully Worn, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Punch Potpourri
  • Cardstock:  Riding Hood Red, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla
  • Designer Series Paper:  Love Letters
  • Classic Ink:  Riding Hood Red, Early Espresso
  • Big Shot Machine and Square Lattice Textured Embossing Folder
