Super Saturday Tutorial: Lovely and Serene Dasher Ornament

Welcome to another edition of the Super Saturday Tutorials from Created By You!  Today I’m stamping with friends, creating wonderful holiday Gift-Able items including this lovely and serene Dasher Ornament.  The ornament is so fun and easy to create, it is suitable for yoru in home workshop / demo, crafting with children, crafting with Seniors, Girl Scouts… or a fun little craft show demo (you get the picture… )!

Here’s a photo of the lovely and serene Dasher ornament my stamp campers made this weekend:

Isn’t it sweet?  With a clean and simple design, and a few items from your local hobby store… you can make this ornament too!

Stampin’ Up! and Supplies for Today’s Lovely and Serene Dasher Ornament for the Holidays:

  • Stamps:  Dasher
  • Ink:  Versamark
  • Accessories:  Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy, White Embossing powder, basic  jewels rhinestones, tinsel, whisper white narrow grosgrain ribbon, champagne shimmer paint, Shimmer Mist technique supplies, Dazzling Diamonds
  • Techniques:  Shimmer Mist (click for the original step y step tutorial)

Hobby & Grocery Store Supplies

  • Delta Cream Coat Acrylic Paint:  Blissful Blue

  • Delta Decorative Snow

  • Krylon Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze

  • Palette knife

  • Circular Ceramic Bisque Ornament

  • Foam Paint Brush

  • Rubbing Alcohol

  • Paper Towels

  • Sharpie Permanent Marker

Step by Step Super Saturday Tutorial

  • Clean the bisque ornament blank using a paper towel and rubbing alcohol.  You are removing any finger grease or residue from handling, shipping, etc. at this point.  It will dry in just a few seconds.

  • Squirt a nickel sized dollop of blissful blue Delta Cream Coat Paint onto Bisque Ornament Blank, and spread over bisque ornament blank using the foam brush.  Add more paint if needed, and apply paint to edges of ornament as well. Allow to dry (this only takes a few seconds).

  • Repeat painting step for reverse side of ornament.

  • Gently tap embossing buddy along entire painted surface of ornament.

  • Ink Dasher image with Versamark Ink, and stamp on painted Bisque Ornament.

  • Turn on Heat Tool to pre-heat.

  • Pour the embossing powder over the versamarked image, and gently tap off excess.

  • Heat set the image using the Heat Tool, using caution not to overheat… and not to touch the surface while hot.

  • Use palette knife to apply decorative snow below the stamped and embossed dasher image.

  • Sprinkle Dazzling Diamonds atop the decorative snow (less is more).

  • Heat set Decorative Snow with Heat Tool… allow to cool, and gently tap with finger to ensure it is set.

  • Spray ornament with Shimmer Mist spray (see tutorial tab on Created By You for full details on the Shimmer Mist aka Glimmer Mist Technique).

  • Place ornament on a protected surface… chipboard, recycled plastic, or parchment paper…your preference… and spray with Krylon Triple Thick Glaze in accordance to directions provided with spray can.

  • Lightly sprinkle Dazzling Diamonds into wet paint.

  • Allow to set/ dry.

  • Thread Narrow Grosgrain ribbon through hole in bisque ornament to create hangar.

  • Wrap neck of bisque ornament with Tinsel, overlapping and twisting along the back of ornament neck

  • Use Sharpie pen to sign and date the back of ornament.

Step it up a notch!!  Here’s the handmade gift box we created during the Holiday Gift-able class, for this special hand made ornament:

I'd love to know where you got the onrament too. And it looks like some sort of jewels in the antlers - is that the case?
