Quilting with my Big Shot.. 1 hour project!

This morning, I decided to put together a quick big shot quilt using the versatile Stampin’ Up! exclusive scallop square die, and my Big Shot machine.  Unlike most the sizzix dies, this one is clear so that you can see the patterns and design you are cutting out!

bigshot_scallopsqure_denimnflannel The picture above shows squares cut from both flannel and denim which were used in the quilt.  You can cut up to 8 layers of standard cotton quilting fabric with the steel ruled dies!  When using denim, upholstery fabric, or other heavier fabrics, you will need to let your Big Shot machine tell you whether it can take that big of a bite… If it is resisting when you are rolling, then remove a layer or two.. it’s that simple!  AND.. it’s even quicker than rotary cutting squares and shapes.. WOW!

For those who know me personally, you know I have been a quilter for years… and have won blue ribbons for hand appliqu├ęd and hand quilted miniatures… Arthritis has slowed my hand work down significantly… but with the big shot, all I can say is WOW.. dust off that machine, and WOW!  Want to see the quilt that I made this morning in an hour?

The reverse side is fun too.  This is a “raggy quilt” technique in which the edges get softer, and more raggy as you wash the quilt over and over,  There are two layers of flannel on this quilt… and on the back.. well, look at the back..

This is the reverse side.. it’s denim!  I recycled an old pair of jeans and cut four layers of denim at a time with the scallop square die.  As you sew the intersections, the seams are pushed alternatively to one side, and then the other… when this quilt is washed repeatedly the seams get softer and softer.  Here is a close-up of the denim side…  the pink, green, and polka-dot flannel layers are showing on this side.

I’d love to show you how fast and fun it is to cut fabric and make a big shot fabric project of your own!  Call me today to get a demonstration for your group, or to book your in-home demonstration and workshop.. and pssst.. you can earn free stamps too!

You’re going to LOVE cutting out fabric with the Big Shot and the Stampin’ Up! Exclusive Dies!
