Wishing You a Very Merry Christmas

Spending time with family and friends, the Christmas season is so very special!  We’ve been blessed to be able to have our DD home for the holiday and have truly been enjoying her company!

Although both my DH and I are still recovering from the yucks, it has been a wonderful Christmas.  We had to change some plans in order to NOT spread the illness :( And will enjoy a very simple, quiet Christmas dinner today.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful, joyous, and memorable Christmas Holiday with those you love.

I’ll be taking a few more days off… while our DD is here, enjoying her bright smiling face and personality… she is such a joy to have around!

Beginning to feel a bit like… Human!

Gosh, this has been some kind of flu!  I finally shed multiple layers of fleece this weekend, and dug out of latent housework.  My purple pet Dyson Animal Vacuum had a very big workout… the curtains were taken down and washed, all the pet beds were washed, the furniture dusted, the dishwasher run, finished painting the kitchen, and actually made some cookies before collapsing into bed.  I know, I know… should have taken it easy but… Christmas is just around the corner and losing over a week to the funky flu was not much fun at all!

Not much stamping going on either… but did manage to catch a “cat in the box”… this is our “little” cat… he weighs about 12 lbs and has an absolute fascination with boxes… any size or shape.  He’s a little camera shy and annoyed at the flash from the camera… he was really planning on a nap.

My DH got a new pair of sneakers at BJ’s and just as soon as he took the shoes out… in jumps our ‘little’ cat.  (The other cat prefers to eat the box… tinfoil, wire, ribbon… you name it.. he’s a 16 lb. garbage disposal).

We’ve had this little lizard trapped in the fireplace for about a week or so… Usually my DH and I will lock the cats in the bathroom and ‘catch’ the lizard and release him back to the outdoors.  The “little” cat has been quite tormented by the trapped lizard though… hanging from the fireplace door handles, banging on the glass… and somehow he managed to release the lizard.

Catching a little unusual ‘cat activity’ out of the corner of my eye, I realized both cats were stalking the lizard, perched on top of the plantation shutters…. yep, indoors and loose in the house.  DD would be screaming and running for the door right about now.

Easier to catch though, simply opened the window and the lizard obligingly crawled outside… whew!  Another lizard saved.

I guess you can tell by the pictures that we don’t live in the northeast!  I really feel for all the people blanketed by the snow… my DH and I were watching all the news reports and just shaking our heads…. thankful that we moved back to sunny Florida!  Snow is great to visit… selectively, and if we don’t have to go anywhere important.

Hope it all goes away quickly, crossing my fingers BIG time…  our DD is flying in from Germany tomorrow to surprise her Daddy for Christmas.  Praying she makes it home without incident or too many delays!

A CASE for Christmas…

Feeling quite under the weather… but when I received a beautiful Christmas Card in the mail from Michelle Zindorf, I just had to figure out how to replicate it!  I added embossed words, and simplified by removing a layer or two… but the idea was Michelle’s.

My two versions of the card are shown below… One with snow, one without.  Not sure which one I prefer… and you?

The ‘snow’ was added with a white signo gel pen.  Both cards were made using Michelle’s infamous brayer techniques and sponging, and the “trendy trees” & “four the holidays” stamp set.

Michelle will be my guest in Jacksonville, Fl. in February 2009 as she teaches both beginner and advanced brayer workshops.  I am so looking forward to her visit.  All classes are filled… and a waiting list has been started.  You can find out more about Michelle’s fabulous brayer workshops (and see her beautiful work & tutorials) on her blog:  zindorf.blogs

The Christmas Bunny… New meets Old Stamps

If I kept every single Stampin’ UP! Stamp which entered my home, I’d have to build an addition (I’d love that but my DH just doesn’t seem to agree).  We all have our favorite stamps we hold onto… One of my favorite stamps features the John Lennon saying “I get by with a little help from my friends”.  Another of my favorites is the retired harlequin patterned stamp featured on this Chocolate Christmas Bunny card.

Feeling a little better, and this chocolate bunny stamp was sitting on my table crying out “Me, Me.. give me some ink, please”.  After stamping and cutting him out, he looked just a bit plain… so I used my Pretty Petal Textured Embossing folder and scallop punch to make a wreath for his neck… hmm… still something missing.. wings?  He was floating on paper and in desperate need of ‘grounding’.

My first attempt at grounding the flying chocolate bunny was to use the woodgrain stamp and aqua painter… not enough… then I dug out the harlequin pattern background (retired stamp).

My friend and downline said I must have been sick.. and asked why I put a wreath around a bunny’s neck… well, I was sick, but why shouldn’t a Christmas Bunny have a wreath around his neck?  I don’t see the problem!

Anyway, hope you like my silly card today… I do love the new satin ribbon and the scallop border punch which will be available on Jan.5th (and the Chocolate Bunny too).

Do you think it’s silly?  Stay warm and dry… Hugs!

Using Scraps and Leftovers for an Unusual Christmas Color Combination

Some stampers meticulously clean their workspace and throw away unused/stamped pieces and bits daily… I have to admit that I am NOT one of those stampers.  I have bits and stamped scraps and color combinations drifting all around my workspace… when it becomes too cluttered and almost dangerous, I stop to put away the stamps, ink pads, and paper… but leave the stamped bits and pieces in random piles around my work area as inspiration.

Today’s card share came from a pile of inspiration… Having made This Card for the Stamptacular Sunday and Utah Divas challenge, I had one lone petal flitting about my workspace and decided it was pretty enough to be a focal point of it’s very own card.

My local critic suggested these were unusual colors for a Christmas card… jeesh!  She did like the corner punch turned up with a brad in the corner, but wasn’t sure about the floating piece of razzleberry “too plain” she said… Perhaps I should just keep the front door locked :) (Are you reading this Eva?)

Here’s a close up of the embossed petal turned ornament, and corner…

The Christmas tree from Snow Swirled was embossed on Very Vanilla Cardstock with White EP and then sponged with So Saffron Classic Ink to give it more depth… same way I did the petals on Sunday.

Sending Eva to see my Senior stampers today… I was afraid I would have to cancel due to illness, although I’m feeling better I am still doing a whole lot of coughing and sneezing, etc… don’t want to contaminate them with my germs, especially right before Christmas!!  Hope they enjoy the special cards I’ve cut/created for them!

Hand Made for Christmas

Still feeling a bit under the weather… beginning to feel a bit more human, so today I’m going to share a few handmade Christmas Cards I have received!

Frosty dancing in the snow from my longtime friend, Ruth:

A total RAK… from a lady I don’t believe I’ve ever met… This card was sent by Andrea R, the picture does not do it justice…  Andrea is a member of the Florida Stampers group!

Stampin’ Up! Snow Swirled and Heard from the Heart from my good friend, Debbie… this tree is so pretty, sparkly and glittery!

Frosty the Snowman, from my longtime friend, Ruth (sorry I cut off the photo at the top a bit):

And from my good friend Esther, whose talent I have shared in prior posts… the true meaning of Christmas…

It’s so wonderful to see so much terrific talent and share the Christmas season with such good friends!

Today I’m going to sit down and make more Christmas Cards until I wear out… I mailed several and forgot to even take a picture.. now was that sick or what???

Have a really good day, hope you find time for creative play!

Bella Toile Christmas Card

In traditional Red and Green Colors, this Bella Toile Christmas Card really pops.  It’s all about texture and punches…

The Pretty Petals Embossing Folder (Holiday Mini Catalog) was used to emboss both the Very Vanilla and Real Red layers of cardstock.  It’s easy to get a straight line of poinsettias by positioning the cardstock in the texturz embossing folder ‘just so’… Champagne Shimmer paint and a sponge dauber were used to highlight the floral embossing too.  It was fun to make the two borders match up and have a bit of color peeking through too..  Here’s a close-up:

I’ve got the FLU.. YUCK, an early Christmas gift from my DH.. and even though it is almost 80 degrees, I am wearing two layers of fleece over my sweater!  Hopefully I can knock this stuff out in a couple days… or I’ll have to cancel my Senior Card Making class on Friday as I really don’t want to share this stuff with anyone!!!

Remember the 12 days of Christmas Holiday Sale is still going on… there are some pretty fantastic specials.  If you’d like to order, be sure to use the SHOP NOW button at my online store otherwise I won’t get credit :)

Hugs to you all, stay warm and FLU FREE!!

Utah Divas and Stamptacular Sunday Challenge Card.. Non Traditional Christmas Boho

Creative Challenges are a great way to get a jump start on crafting.  Today, I’m combining the Utah Divas International Card Layout Challenge along with the Stamptacular Sunday Challenge for non-traditional Christmas Colors.

The outer layers of the focal floral image were made with the Ornament Punch (Holiday Mini Catalog)… can you guess what stamp set was embossed on the Very Vanilla Cardstock?  Hint:  think outside the box.

The layout came from Utah Divas International…

The second challenge was from the Stamptacular Sunday Challenge which mandated that we create a Christmas card in NON-traditional colors, i.e. NO Red or Green!  Those who follow me and/or attend my workshops and classes know I have absolutely no problem meeting that criteria ;)

Long story short.. here is my entry for the challenge… using the new punches and ribbons available 1/5/09… and then current mini catalog items too (Four the Holidays stamp set, Pretty Petals Embossing Folder, and Ornament Punch).  I LOVE the Four the Holidays stamp set, hope they carry it into the next catalog in August!!

I have been meaning to make an Easel Card for a couple weeks now.  The basic card is cut 4” x 12” and scored at 4, 6, and 8”.  You can find a tutorial at Splitcoast Stampers for the quick and simple cards here: Easel Cards   Here’s a close-up of my card…  doesn’t it look like fun?

The close-up shows detail of the new edge and corner punches which will be offered for sale by Stampin’ Up! in January, aren’t they fun?  Here’s a closed view of the card… (although it’s not quite closed all the way :)

I’m loving the new satin ribbon too, it’s only 5/8” wide and perfect for cards.  Here’s an open view of the card standing upright all by itself!  The lovely scripted “Merry Christmas” is from the “Four the Holidays” Stamp Set featured in the Holiday Mini Catalog… only available for a few more weeks!

Quick Post today... Stampin' Addicts Forum

Today I have a very nice order to sort, and Christmas Cards to make... After playing hookey all day yesterday with Eva, I need to buckle down and stamp!  I've got a lot of catching up to do!

Looking for great ideas using all those stamps, papers, and inks you have accumulated?  Here is a fairly new forum to check out:  Stampin' Addicts.  The group was formed last February, and I've been 'stalking' as my DD would call it since the beginning.  It's a great place to ask questions, pick up tips and tricks, or just to get inspiration... hope you'll check out >>Stampin' Addicts HERE <<

Just for SU Demos:  FYI there is also a demo only forum... be sure to check that out too!  Meet you on the flip side :)

One Sheet Wonder Wrap Up.. Lovely as A Tree Finale

How exciting, my new Sale-A-Bration and Occassions Mini Catalog merchandise has arrived here in Jacksonville, Florida!  Soon, I’ll have brand new stamps, and samples to share with you!  My Clear Stamp Blocks have arrived too… just wait until you see these babies.. you’re going to love them!

The last two one sheet wonder designs are being shared today… and somehow I successfully managed to use just about every single piece of the 12x12 Christmas Cocoa Snowflake DSP… Whew!!

The card above features the stamp image from the Christmas Punch hostess set.  After punching it out with the scallop square punch, we used the fine point of the soft suede stampin’ write marker to dot each scallop… nice effect to balance with the dots below the Merry Christmas greeting from Teeny Tiny Wishes!

Lovely as a Tree… always classic and classy, and accompanied with “Four the Holidays”… what a quick and elegant card!  Peace on Earth… can’t you sit in serene silence beneath the canopy of lovely trees?

Stamps:  Lovely As A Tree, Four the Holidays, Christmas Punch, Teeny Tiny Wishes

Card Stock:  Soft Suede, Whisper White

Classic Inks:  Soft Suede

Accessories:

  • Scallop Square Punch
  • Stampin’ Write Marker Soft Suede

Off to play with my new stamps… oh boy!!

16 Card One Sheet Wonder.. Part 3

Eight Designs… but sixteen cards, and a whole lot of Stampin’ Up! Stamp Sets!  Two more quick card shares today, although a little late in the day!

How about another Dasher Card?  This one also uses the Serene Snowflake Stamp From Stampin’ Up!.  Both stamps are featured on the under $10 page of the Idea Book & Catalog.

A couple weeks ago, my friend Rosemarie Diehl posted an adorable card to one of the yahoo groups we belong to, and I couldn’t help CASE’ng it and making it my own with this Christmas Door Wreath… This time we used the Snowflake Punch and Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker to ‘polka dot’ the Whisper White wreath layer…how cool is this?

You can visit Rose’s World Here…  leave a comment and tell her Sharon Field sent you on over, it will make her smile!

Stamps:  Serene Snowflake, Dasher, Warm Words, Sweet Season

Classic Inks:  Soft Suede

Cardstock:  Whisper White, Soft Suede

Accessories:

  • Stampin’ Write Marker Soft Suede
  • Sponge Dauber
  • Silver Brads
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • Christmas Cocoa DSP
  • Wide Oval Punch
  • Snowflake Punch
  • 2-way glue pen
  • dazzling diamonds
  • ruler

It has been a crazy busy pre-Christmas holiday season, hasn’t it??  I can hardly believe how quickly time is flying!

More card shares tomorrow… trying to catch up, hope you’ll come along for the journey!

Two More One Sheet Wonder Cards to Share with You!

The Christmas Cocoa One Sheet Wonder Class made me really think about what other colors of ink blend well with Soft Suede!  The class set-up plan I design usually calls for 2 or three projects at each table… and I only had one Soft Suede ink pad!

Call it a mental block… but the thought of suede or brown snowflakes just gave me a kind of yucky feeling (brown snow?.. you get it!).  Sahara Sand (dingy snowflakes) seemed to work though… you know, the mess after the slush?  To stretch my ink, we used a soft suede stampin’ Write Marker and Close to Cocoa Classic Ink!

Here’s the next card share… with the sahara sand classic ink snowflakes.  Do you like my pretty petals embossed bird?

A second card (remember the attendees made 16 cards, 2 of each design)… This one also has Sahara Sand Snowflakes!

Stamps:

  • Many Merry Messages
  • Serene Snowflakes

Classic Inks:  Sahara Sand

Card Stock:

  • Whisper White
  • Sahara Sand

Accessories:

  • Christmas Cocoa DSP
  • Birds N Blooms Sizzlit
  • Pretty Petals Embossing Folder
  • Soft Suede Polka Dot Ribbon
  • Crystal Brads
  • Scallop Circle Punch

Two more on the one sheet wonder Christmas cocoa card shares tomorrow…  Such fun!

One Sheet Wonder Sneak Peek 2

The One Sheet Wonder Class participants this weekend cranked out 16 cards, and during Saturday’ class, we stopped half way through for a yummy lunch of White Chicken Chili (my special recipe), Tuscan Pita Chips, and Gingerbread.. YUM!

Here’s two more of the Christmas Cards we made with the Christmas Cocoa Designer Series Paper form Stampin’ Up’s Holiday Mini Catalog.. what a great way to crank out a bunch of Christmas Cards really quick!

Here’s another design sample incorporating faux zig-zag stitching with the fabulous mat pack, and the pretty petals embossing folder!

I always like to surprise my stampers with a little bonus technique during classes.  Most have done faux stitching with the mat pack in straight lines, and hadn’t really thought about zig zag stitching too.

The DSP on the left edge of the card just happens to be the flip side of the Soft Suede snowflake patterned paper featured in the main panel.  After I drew my OSW map, I had some narrow strips left over and thought, why not use it on a card??

We used a lot of Dimensional Dots during this class.  I smiled happily when one of said she doesn’t use anything except Stampin’ Up! Dimensionals now.  The paper is so easy to remove when you stick your fingernail into it… and they are ultra thin and flexible unlike others commonly found.

See you tomorrow with more OSW shares… got to start working on my next blog tour… and my NEW Stampin’ Up! merchandise.. oh my, are you going to be in for a happy surprise!

Still no word form DS or his buddy… thanks for all your kind comments and prayers… it would help of course if he LIKED to call or communicate.

Hugs

Shelli Gardner on Today Show… Today! OSW Sneak Peek…

As many of you know, Shelli Gardner is the Owner/President of Stampin’ Up!  It is always a pleasure to see her on stage at Conventions, Leadership, or other Stampin’ Up! hosted events.  This morning, Shelli Gardner will also be a guest on NBC’s Today Show!  I’m looking forward to seeing what creative projects she may share, and I hope you’ll tune in to the NBC Today Show this morning too… I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

Sneak Peek…

Every other month, I come up with a new One Sheet Wonder Class for my customers and stampin’ friends.  This weekends’ classes will feature the Christmas Cocoa Designer Series Paper and a whopping 16 cards (8 designs) based on one patterned paper from the pack. You’ll get to use a BUNCH of different Stampin’ Up! Stamp Sets too. It’s a great way to quickly make a LOT of cards, but also a great way to spend a couple of hours with friends and/or make new friends!

Hope to see you tomorrow… AND I’ll announce the blog candy winner too!

Pretties For All You Do Club Card

Is it possible to have too many supplies?  Perhaps…. I have had my Stampin’ Up! Pretties for well over a year, it seems to get lost in my stampin’ room.  I cannot imagine how a pretty shiny metal container can get lost in my Stamp Room… but then again, you haven’t seen it have you?  (hee, hee… those who have will definitely understand!)

The First Wednesday Card Club of Jacksonville really enjoyed making this card during our club meeting this month.  The Pretties Blossom was dyed with a sponge dauber and Apricot Appeal Classic Ink, and really looked quite stunning against the Nuoveau Chic Designer Series Paper!  The paper was my cue for colors for the card (that and a Razzleberry Lemonade Convention swap I had received from Chiaki Haverstick :)

The Card Club members also got to make one of the little Treat Bags which I featured on my blog last week… everyone was very happily surprised.  Lunch was good, dessert was great… and we all had a fun time too!

A sponge dauber was used to add color to the edges of the DSP and the Apricot Appeal panel.  After stamping a stem from the “For All you Do” stamp set, it was attached to an 1/8” larger piece of Apricot Appeal Cardstock and that, in turn was attached to the vellum with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The Vellum was attached with tombow adhesive directly to the card… it is invisible because it is covered by the apricot/vanilla stamped piece.

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

Card Stock:  Very Vanilla, Basic Gray, Apricot Appeal, Vellum

Classic Inks:  Basic Gray, Mellow Moss, Apricot Appeal

Stampin’ Supplies:  Nouveau Chic Designer Series Paper, Bashful Blue Narrow Grosgrain Ribbon, Basic Gray (or Chocolate Chip) Corduroy Buttons, Sponge Daubers, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Club Card… Celebrations and Oops!

Wow… I can’t believe I did this… while prepping for the First Wednesday Card Club here in Jacksonville,Florida… I was fumbling around and looking for the perfect stamp set for a partially made card, I reached for a single stamp on my shelf.  Still in it’s box, properly mounted, and labeled, and on the current inventory shelf, it was the perfect answer and solution.  BUT.. guess what?  It’s not a current stamp set! BIG OOPS…

Well, I still like the card and how it came out… but guess I will have to offer a current stamp substitution, perhaps “Simply Thanks” from the “Under $10 Page” will do… hmm.

My stamp club has been asking for birthday cards so I thought “Celebrations” would be a perfect solution, and versatile enough to be used for other occasions too… back to the drawing board!

Stamps:  Celebrations

Card Stock:  Whisper White, Sage Shadow, Basic Gray

Classic Ink:  Sage Shadow, Apricot Appeal, Basic Gray

Accessories:  Chic DSP, Sage Shadow narrow grosgrain, Final Press Embossing Folder, Clips Assortment, Mat Pack, and Piercing Tool

Back tomorrow with another club card… and then I will begin sharing the Christmas Cocoa One Sheet Wonder Class Cards.. The class will be held on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday… make sure you have reserved your spot, check my Stampin’ Up! Calendar Here for times and dates.
