Humor in High Heels... the Cinderella Glass Slipper

cinderellasshoe0109sas

One last card, featured in last Saturday's Stamp-A-Stack Camp.   This one is quick and easy, a design to create a balance with some of the more complex cards(featured in earlier posts).  A more complex card for instance, may feature a simple technique... such as fussy cutting around layered stamped images done on my  barnes and noble tote bag inspired card.  This card was one of the simpler "balance" cards we made.

Cinderella's glass slipper is from the exclusive Stampin' Up! set "Humor in High Heels."   One quote in the stamp set is from divine diva Bette Middler:  "Give a girl the correct footwear and she can conquer the world."  Isn't that absolutely true Ladies?  The correct shoes will not only complete the outfit, but instill some inner sense of power!  And, when our feet hurt, we are miserable, we hurt all over!  Blurffing yesterday morning, I came across THIS post by Shelli Gardner, CEO and President of Stampin' Up! telling us about her aching feet after attending the west coast CHA Market(Craft and Hobby Association) and reading her post, I could almost feel her pain!!   Reading Shelli's blog is always such a joy, she tells stories about her past, her family, and her husband... all of which just warm your heart and make you smile.

Back to the card, which features 1 1/4" pink pirouette ribbon.  I've used this wider ribbon on cards before revisit one of those cards in my November 11th Post.  Want to know the secret to knotting a wider ribbon?  Don't pull it too tight!  When you pull it too tightly, it just looks totally out of proportion with the rest of the ribbon!

I really had planned to add our exclusive crystal effects lacquer and dazzling diamonds to the card... funny how some stuff never gets done when prepping for a big camp!  Perhaps I'll add it before mailing this card out, time permitting!

Recipe for this card:

Stamps:  Humor in High Heels (#111652/ 10 stamps/ $26.95)

Classic Ink:  Creamy Caramel (#103220 / $5.95)

Little Cupcake Shoppe... Crazy for Cupcakes

Isn't this fresh and fun? The striped paper on this card is from the Delicate Dots Designer Series Paper on page 8 of the Sale-A-Bration Catalog which comes out on 2/1... and it's FREE! I chose all the colors in this card based on the stripes... and then C.A.S.E.d a card I received at Leadership 2009 from Lela Grunden Holper of Torrence, California. Lela's original card used a stripe paper in the candy lane designer series packet which was part of the Love You Much Bundle... her card was absolutely adorable and done in cocoa, pink, and rose red. I also changed the background... but other than that, it's really Lela's card. I can't find a blog for Lela... but if her name sounds familiar, it's because I also received a swap from her at convention, and posted it last year on my blog HERE. I really wish she had a blog.. because she's very, very creative!

Dream A Little Hostess Level 3 in Cameo Coral

Don't you just love the new Idea Book & Catalog for Spring/Summer 2009?  I've paged through mine so many times... and I haven't even looked at all the samples and ideas yet!

"Dream a Little" is a hostess set earned when you have a qualifying workshop of $500 or more... Get your stampin' friends together and host a workshop, or book party, and this set could be yours (plus $60.00 in free merchandise too).

dreamalittle_sas0124

Cameo Coral is such a beautiful color... it probably should be re-named flamingo pink because that is exactly the colors of well fed flamingos in Florida!!  I remember going to Marineland for the first time and being stunned at the bright coral color of thee beautiful and elegant flamingos.

We don't have cameo coral taffeta ribbon... so I had to improvise!  I've drug ribbon through an ink pad before and boy, was that messy... So, this time, I used a technique shared earlier this month at Leadership by Shelli Gardner (Co-founder and CEO of  Stampin' Up!).  Instead of dragging that ribbon through the pad, she used a sponge dauber to add ink to our new white organza ribbon!  I haven't received my new catty order yet, so I sponged my taffeta ribbon instead.  The results were great!  AND the ribbon didn't need to be heated or dried afterwards!  No messy fingers... no blotches, just perfectly dyed ribbon.

Isn't it cool that a big company CEO still plays with product?  It's true, Shelli really does enjoy stamping, creating, and designing.  It's always fun to see her too... always something new she has to share!  So... back to business....

This was another card made in our Saturday Stamp A Stack.  Several stamp sets went into this card.  The large background was done with En Francais, the branch came from Eastern Blooms, the hummingbird came from Dream a Little, and the words came from Thank You Kindly.  I guess I just grabbed whatever was piling up around me and put them to work!  So... here are the item numbers, etc. for the card... but you'll have to hostess an in home workshop or book party to get Dream A Little, but then it would be FREE too!

Stamps:  Dream A Little (Hostess Level 3), En Francais #109521 $17.95); Thank You Kindly (#111700/set of 4/$13.95); Eastern Blooms (#111626/set of 5/$21.95)

Card Stock:  Very Vanilla (#101650/40 sheets/$7.50); Cameo Coral (#100475/24sheets/$5.50)

Accessories:  Sponge Daubers (#102892/set of 12/$10.95); Dazzling Diamonds102023/0.5 oz/$4.50); Whisper White Taffeta Ribbon (#109070/10yds/$6.95); 2-Way Glue Pen (100425/$3.50)

What a difference a punch can make... and Guest Stamper, Evelyn Wood

This was a quick card we made during Saturday's Stamp A Stack (SAS), inspired by a brown and yellow number I had received as a swap from my upline, Lee.  We made 5 cards in all, the "barnes and noble" card posted last Saturday was one of them.

sas0109thanks

After the camp, I sat down and put together the extra card parts for my stash... and inadvertently picked up my corner rounder instead of the ticket corner punch!!!

My first instinct of course was to grab another sheet of paper and re-cut the piece... but then I thought, why not just go with the flow!!

What a difference a corner treatment can make!

All the items used in these cards are listed below... and all are available through online ordering click HERE to visit my Stampin' Up! Store, then click "SHOP NOW" in the upper right corner!

I think she went to the beach later that afternoon too!!  Here's a card swap that Evelyn shared with me.. you can see more of her work on her blog TheStampingSiren.

Happy Birthday to Ruben, and Alden Road Club Projects

I had so much fun at my card club on Friday!! We actually completed 6 projects in an hour and a half... they really worked very hard!   The pixie sticks were a big hit... but so were the cards, and sweet heart bag toppers.

The kids always look forward to card club, and are on their best classroom behavior.  Today was extra special because they were looking forward to a pizza party in celebration of Ruben's birthday.  Ruben's actual birthday was on Saturday, but we all know there's no school on Saturday!  Happy Birthday Ruben!!  Keep on Smiling.. we love to see your smile!

rebecca_and_ciara_cardclub

This is a picture of Rebecca and Ciara holding their card club projects.  Ciara is the card club president and loves to write for the school newspaper.  Both Rebecca and Ciara are very helpful during card club.  Don't you just love their beautiful smiles (and Scarlett's too .. she wasn't in the picture.. ).  I really do enjoy my volunteer work with these girls, they're always so polite, friendly, and happy!

The kids have been studying penguins, and each one made their own penguin pocket folder to store all the information they learn.  Aren't the penguins cute?  And the kids too, of course!!  Each and every one of these kids are also enrolled in classroom scouting through Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts too, isn't that wonderful?

Oh... and that's Ruben, the birthday boy sitting at his desk in the middle... I can't believe he wasn't smiling for the picture!! Ruben is almost always smiling!  Happy Birthday, again, Ruben!!  I know Ms. Green is going to show you that I put your pictures on my blog.... and now you're FAMOUS too!

On the far right, is Scarlett... doesn't she have a pretty smile too?  Scarlett just got her hair cut, I think it's really cute, very chic!

aldenrd_learningabout_pengu

Well guys, make sure you behave for your teacher(s)... got to earn those dolphin bucks... and hope you had fun eating pizza!

Lots of Love,

Ms. Sharon

Barnes and Noble Tote... and Now a Card

You should see my stamp room!!!  Boy, oh boy is it a mess... then again, perhaps you shouldn't see it!

I've always worked very hard to come up with original designs and creations for my card camps.  And yes, occasionally I C.A.S.E. (copy and share everything).  Sometimes it's kind of hard to recall exactly where your inspiration came from, as we're inundated with print media, feedblitz subscriptions and RSS feeds on a daily basis!  I always enjoy reading those "inspired by" posts... and my stamper friends always ask who/what/where/whom I was inspired by..

Last week, I looked around my disastrous stamp room... and noticed this Barnes and Noble bag sitting in the corner.  It was one of those "I just HAVE to HAVE" it purchases, aka impulse buys.  I loved this handy dandy tote when I purchased it... and I have to tell you that I still love it!  BUT I can honestly say that I had a moment of revelation, and was sweepingly inspired by this simple but pretty and soft recycled bag.

barnesandnoblebaginspiratio

Today... as I scanned the demolished room, I ENVISIONED A BEAUTIFUL CARD... a revelation... A NEW, Never before Seen CARD!!!  The angels sang, the heavens opened up, and I went to work.

As any true blue stamper can tell you... the table was trashed, the trash can was full... and my creations were DUDS.... YUCK!!!  The colors just didn't work, the background just wasn't right... and most of all, I needed MORE STAMPS!!!  I quickly leafed through my new Spring and Summer Idea Book and Catalog 2009... and made a list that I couldn't even begin to afford.... worst yet, my camp was closing on me... FAST.

Tossing aside the prototypes, samples and outright mistakes... I looked at my shelf of current Stampin' Up! stamp sets... and sighed as I tapped my chin....

Tired of reading this gibberish?   Hey.. do you really think I'm speaking gibberish?... I must be tired, and promise I'll be back to my old solemn self tomorrow.... perhaps.

Inspired-by-Barnes-and-Nobl

ANYWAY... I did make a card... and I think I like it...  not quite what I had envisioned, but there's always time to reinvent the wheel and recreate the card.  I just hope my stamp-a-stack attendees like it.  OK, I really hope they LOVE it... Isn't that what we all want??

Stampin' Up! Stamps:  Dream A little, Tres Chic

Stampin' Up! Card Stock:  Certainly Celery, Ballet Blue, Very Vanilla

Stampin' Up! Ink:  Bashful Blue, Ballet Blue,  White Craft

Stampin' Up! Accessories:   Corner Rounder Punch, Signo White Gel Pen, Paper Snips, Sponge Daubers, NEW Certainly Celery Twill Tape Ribbon

See you tomorrow!!

Valentine Pixie Sticks Treat Holder Tutorial

Or instructions, directions... refer to it as you may! Yesterday, I posted a cute little treat holder reworked from a swap (Original Post HERE). I received requests all day long for a tutorial and/or the measurements for this cute little valentine treat... so here you go!

Valentine Pixie Sticks Treat Holder Tutorial

AldenRoadGirlsClub_PixieSti

This cute and simple treat holder was a great hit at the Alden Road Exceptional Student Center! I think the greatest challenge when making this treat holder was to find the pixie sticks... yes, I went to Wally World, Publix, Winn Dixie... but they only seem to carry those items during the summer!! I did manage to find them at the local drug stores (CVS and Walgreens)... so if you're looking for Pixie Sticks, you might want to try your local pharmacy!

Supplies

  • Card Stock: Riding Hood Red, Pretty In Pink Whisper White
  • Classic Ink: Riding Hood Red
  • Stamps: Love You Much
  • Accessories: Watercolor Pencils, SU! Scallop, Heart to Heart, and 1 /4" circle punches; tombow multi adhesive, Real Red stampin' write marker; Candy Lane Designer Series Paper; EK Success 2" scallop punch; rubber band, Crop a Dile Tool, 3 pixie sticks, paper snips, stapler, sharp pencil and Stampin' Up! mat pak

  • Cut Riding Hood Red card stock 1 3/4 x 11".
  • Score along long side at 2 3/4, 6 3/4, and 7 1/4
  • Between the scored lines that are only 1/2" apart, use your handy dandy Stampin' Up! mat pack and a pencil to evenly space a set of three holes (I used the medium holes on the template because it allowed me to put one in the center of the 1/2 " strip, skip one and pencil the 2nd and 3rd holes to each side)
  • Punch out the holes with the 3/8" punch on the crop-a-dile
  • Put your paper snips into a hole just far enough that they rest along the edges of the hole, and gently 'twirl' to enlarge it enough to fit the pixie sticks - don't apply too much pressure, you don't want to over enlarge the hole.
  • Repeat for remaining two holes.
  • Pinch one end of the pixie sticks, check that it fits snuggly through your holes, and then set aside.
  • Fold on all scored lines.
  • Open it up so that only the 2 3/4" flap is folded against the back of the holder
  • Put one staple in each edge of the 2 3/4" flap... about 1/3" way down from the top edge.
  • Cut a piece of DSP1 5/8" x 3 5/8" and affix to the front flap of the pixie sticks holder
  • Decorate the un-pinched end of the pixie sticks with scallop punches and stamped images. (I tried to staple the sticks but they came loose... so used tombow and two scallops with the sticks between the layers.

To secure the holder, tie with a ribbon or... as in the sample,

  • or cut a 1 3/4" circle of card stock and place it on top of the pixie sticks holder.
  • Wrap a rubber band around the circle and the holder
  • Punch a scallop punch of coordinating card stock and glue to the circle (scallop will be mounted OVER the rubber band... I use tombow)**
  • Decorate with an additional stamped scallop punch.

**Another way to secure the holder with rubberband: Staple the rubber band between a circle and and the larger scallop punch... just make sure the entire assembly will fit securely around your pixie sticks holder.

Clear as mud?

Remember.. the Love You Much Valentine Promotion includes the Love You Much Stamp Set, Candy Lane Designer Series Paper, and the new Heart to Heart Punch AND it's on sale (20% off) thru January 31st! The item number for the bundle is # 115405 (regular price $51.85 on sale for $41.48)... Note: edited to correct size of riding hood red cs to 1 3/4" x 11"... sorry for any confusion it may have caused!!

Valentines Bundle and Alden Road Girls Card Club

The Stampin' Up! Valentines Bundle (available thru January 31st at a discount price of $41.48) has been so much fun to work with!  I know my girls card club members at the Alden Road Exceptional Student Center are just going to love working with this fabulous stamp set too!

AldenRoadGirlsClub_Vcardmat

Many of the students at the center have limited dexterity issues, so I try to stay away from bows and knots.  They also re-create the projects I design and use them as fund raisers amongst teachers and students, making field trips more affordable.  The projects, therefore must be easily recreated!

AldenRoadGirlsClub_valentin

We will make these cute and simple projects on Friday, all with a Valentines' Theme, and all made with the Valentines' Bundle Special Offer!  You can order your bundle >>HERE<< simply click the SHOP NOW button, and enter the code 115405, complete with the Heart to Heart Punch, Love You Much Stamp Set, and Candy Lane Designer Series Paper, and 20% OFF retail too!

sandyhancock_pixiestix

The third project is a CASE and re-work of a swap I received from my "Upline's Upline Upline", aka Sandy Hancock in Texas.... and you can Visit Sandy's Blog HERE.  Here is Sandy's sample, complete with a 'forbidden' bow... too difficult for the girls to tie.

AldenRoadGirlsClub_PixieSti

So... I reworked the sample a bit, added some more color, and of course... used the Love You Much Stamp Set!  It will be very easy for them to recreate, and instead of a bow, I used a rubber band to seal it shut!  The girls love to color too... I'm sure they will enjoy coloring the birds.

Limited Supplies Challenge and Valentines Demonstration

Last Saturday, I was asked to demonstrate card making to promote my new classes at a local craft store.  I had a stamp camp that day, and so had to 'pull something together quite quickly'.  Grabbing my sample board just a few supplies, stamps, and ink pads I have to honestly say that I had no clue what I was going to do when I got there!  When I arrived at the store, I realized with remorse that I hadn't grabbed much at all.. Yikes!  These are six cards I quickly created "on the fly".

Card Club Wednesday, Making New Friends

Card Club is such a great way to meet new stampin' friends!  We stamp a couple projects, feast on food provided by the members, and take time to visit with old friends and new.

The card club has a minimum purchase requirement, and members share/rotate hostess benefits... everyone has a good time, and everyone earns free product too!  If you'd like to start a card club, just give me a ring (View my contact information HERE). The club may be held in your home or mine... or, we can even have a rotating location.

Creative Play, Paper Seamstress... How to Make My Pretty Pink Gown

heart2heartdressswapforleadership129eihd

Remember the pretty pink dress on this card?  I posted it before going to the Stampin' Up! Leadership event in Orlando, Florida (where, it seems it caused quite a stir), and was also posted on splitcoaststampers before I even got back home to Jacksonville!  Several people have asked me how it was made and/or how I came up with it... so, here we go!

scallopovaleggtulip98324rj

Actually, I started out to make an Easter card... and then things took a furious turn!

I took my Wide Oval Punch, and centered one narrow end in my scallop edge punch to create what began as an Easter Egg.  But it looked more like a very plain tulip to me... so...

Ovalhasbeenscalloped3209810

I turned it around and suddenly realized that it was actually the bottom of a pretty pink gown!

Well, every gown needs a bodice (must be the seamstress in me)...

ovalwithheartbeginsadress02

So, I reached for my heart to heart punch...

At first I tried the medium heart, but it made the dress look too frumpy when the tip was buried under the oval.  I opted instead for the largest heart, giving the dress a taller silhouette.

adressfromovalandheart02498

The very tip of the heart was affixed to the crest of the oval with tombow multi adhesive glue... and a gown was born!

Note:  There has been some discussion as to whether this dress is appropriate for younger girls... (Lee)... as a simple modification, you could add a white paper camisole and some rhinestone straps too!

addasashribbon92480il

Of course, every dress needs a sash and/or pretty bow, and a knot of white taffeta ribbon served that purpose well.

On the original card, I also used my white signo gel pen to add stitching along the bottom hemline of the dress, and polka dots to the bodice.

heart2heartdressswapforlead

Oh... and as one reader pointed out, the black object at the bottom of the dress is part of the wire stand which the card was sitting in when the photo was taken.

Hope to see all your paper seamstress creations soon!

Created With Inspiration From Cindy Fodor

cindyfodorleaf_inspiration2

Cindy Fodor* is a successful Stampin' Up! Demonstrator living in Pennsylvania. I met her at the Convention last summer, and bumped into her again at the Leadership event in Orlando, Florida. This project was inspired by Cindy's swap and the little leaf on her swap. I can't show you the entire swap until the 19th, when the new Spring/Summer Collection is released... but I can share the leaf inspiration! See how the crimping goes in two different directions? Isn't that cool?

oneflowerclseup_cfodorinspi

After examining her swap/leaf a little closer, I just had to make some leaves of my own... and of course that idea blossomed into something else... a flower! Petals were punched with the large oval punch, scored lengthwise and folded in half before running through my crimper. When the folded, crimped petals are opened back up, you will have these very directional crimps. Here, I've topped it with the snowflake punch in kiwi kiss, one bloom in rose red from the boho blossoms punch, and a fire crystal brad.

flowercloseup_cindyfodoride

Of course, I had to add a couple leaves too. These are done in always artichoke and old olive, giving just enough contrast to the mostly kiwi kiss designer series paper. The leaves and flower were attached to my project with stampin' dimensionals in order to help it maintain it's shape.

club_bagwflower98uyh

The flower was attached to the bottom of my designer series paper gift bag. I used some of the holiday mini cording for handles, and also made a cute little gift card to match. Isn't it fun?

To make the bag, I cut a rectangle of Raspberry Tart Designer Series Paper measuring 9.25" x 12", scoring along the short side 1-3/4" from the bottom edge, and 3/4" from the top edge. Next, score the long side at 4", 5-3/4", 9-3/4" and 11-1/2". To make the bag bottom, simply cut up to the 1-3/4" score along the long side.

Be careful when you use the cropadile to punch the hole for your handles/eyelets... when you fit the tool inside the bag to punch the large hole, it's very easy to catch the other side of the bag with the smaller punch!

giftcardclseup921830oic

Of course, you'll want to make a matching gift card with the leftover scraps too! Here, I've layered hearts from the heart to heart punch, and also scalloped the right edge of my gift card. A rose red marker was also used to add dots to each scallop, and highlight the edges of the scallops. Finally, the card was tied to the bag with pretty in pink taffeta ribbon.

*Note: Cindy Fodor does not have a blog at this time... but she's definitely thinking about it!!

Living It Up In Orlando

Home from the Stampin' Up! Leadership and Regional event in Orlando, and everything is already a fast and furious blur.  Of course, I got to meet Shelli Gardner, Owner of Stampin' Up! (again)... and posed for the obligatory photo in which she looks fabulous, and I look frumpy.  I really need to learn to take my glasses off my head when posing for pictures!

I have to share a picture of the beautiful salad we were served on day one... with marinated portobello mushrooms and roasted red peppers, and an edible flower too!  I can honestly say I cleaned my plate!

abeautifulfeast

On the second day, we feasted on cornish game hens, potatoes, green beans, and dessert... all quite tasty, but not as photo worthy as lunch on the first day of leadership!

While in Orlando, several of us shared a two bedroom condo just a hop/skip from the west concourse of the convention center and Sea World.  The condo was decorated with a brilliant blue and yo yo yellow nautical theme.  It was roomy enough for all of us... and the master suite... well, here are pictures of the master suite too.

During the leadership and regional events, Stampin' Up! gives away prizes... it is all done randomnly, during leadership we are given colored and patterned bands when we pick up our bags of goodies, and during the regional event, names are flashed onto the big screen.  Although nobody in our group won during leadership... one of my downline, Eva did win a free stamp set from the spring/summer collection 2009!  Here's a picture of lucky Eva with her free stamp set!  Needless to say, we were all quite jealous!  And, for a change, I'll be borrowing a stamp set from Eva instead of the other way around!

shelleynmeldrshp2009

Well.. here I am with the fabulous, famous, Shelli!  I have to say that this was the best event yet, and I'm really looking forward to attending Leadership 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona!  I hope you'll be there too!  Join Stampin' Up! today... simply to visit my Demonstrator Website... Look for the JOIN NOW button in the upper right corner, and enter the password JoinMYExclusiveTeam ... I'm looking forward to working with you!

Stampin Up Leadership and Regionals 2009... On My Way Home

Just a quick post... It has been a crazy, fun filled week!!  The Stampin' Up! Leadership seminar was absolutely WONDERFUL!  The class offerings were not only pertinent to my business, jam packed full of great tips and tools, and presented by absolutely awesome instructors and demonstrators!  If you are currently a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, I would encourage you to attend next years' conference in Phoenix, Arizona!  I'd love it if all my down-line could attend, to... quite a rewarding experience!

I'm traveling home to Jacksonville today, and wish all my new friends a safe and uneventful journey... back to the Midwest, West Coast, Canada, etc.  It was a pleasure to meet and spend time with all of you, to pick your brains, glean bits of knowledge, and share experiences and swaps!

I'm looking forward to sharing some of the wonderful swaps I received, and to hearing from all my new friends!

Hugs,

Sharon

More simple cards from the December Downline Swap

These are really quick and simple cards, but beautifully executed!  The first card was made by my friend Susan (a link to her blog Stampin' Inferno, may be found on my side bar).

swapsusandec0234iouewoSusan's cards are always an execution in precision and excellence.  I know this card is hers even though it is unsigned or stamped.  Using Designer Series Papers and Sweet Stems, the soft colors are perfectly paired.  The floral image is highlighted with dazzling diamonds and a glue pen, and sparkles plenty in person too!

The next two cards are also simple and sweet executions, perfect for demonstrating at a workshop or stamp a stack.  The card on the left actually has two layers affixed to the card with a perfectly matching brad from Stampin' Up!.  Both cards use punches available only through Stampin' Up! and are fun, easy, and quick cards to create!

pinkvalentine0803850decdwnlineswap1209uoiewoiu4

I'm attending the Stampin' Up! Leadership and Regionals Convention in Orlando, Florida... so I hope to have lots of new stuff to share in the forthcoming weeks!  If you're a member of my stamp club, you'll also be able to preview the new Spring/Summer Collection 2009 Catalog at the next club meeting... See you there!
