Exploding Ornament Box.. Really...

A while back, everyone was making exploding boxes... exploding albums, trinket boxes, cards, etc... and I couldn't help but draft a simple box for my flat glass Christmas ornament too.  This box is so simple to make, goes together quickly, and doubles as a card!!

This first photo is an inside of the box.. I'll probably add a card to the inside and center of the box, and possibly some ribbon later this afternoon.  The stamp set used is "Winter Post"... available in the Holiday Mini Catalog.    You can't really see the skaters inside the ornament... but they are stamped with stazon jet black ink, and of course I've added snow.

I'm sure the whole package will be much more impressive when adorned by ribbon and tag... The stamp set comes with a lovely "do not open until Christmas" image... and although tempting, I won't put it on this package, as I'd love the recipient to open it up and put it on their very own Christmas tree for holiday enjoyment!

To make this simple box base, measure Red Riding Hood Textured Cardstock base and cut at 6 1/2 x 6 1/2", and score on all four sides at 1 1/2".  Use a bone folder on all scored lines and then gently push scored corners together forming small triangles.  (Alternatively you could score each corner on a diagonal and then push the diagonal inwards.)

The lid is cut 5 1/8" x 5 1/8"  in Whisper White, stamped in Riding Hood Red Classic Ink, and then scored at 3/4" on each side.  Clip to the scored line on the perpendicular scored line on two parallel sides.. clear as mud, huh??  You are basically creating flaps on two parallel sides, which you then adhere to the inside of the lid with Red Sticky Tape.

Well, I'm off to prep for my workshop this weekend.. we're making tons of gifting projects, while lunching and stamping with friends... Hope to see you there!

Note:  post edited to correct lid dimensions Sat. 11/18
